Title: How Much 4 a late Type R
Post by: Jamie on January 02, 2004, 09:21:44 PM
Sorry if this question has been asked before.  But I am new here, so go easy on me.

I\'m some what keen to get myself a 3rd Gen Type R around 98 or 99.  From what I\'ve read these late models were only available in the land of the rising sun.
What I\'d like to know is roughly how much one if going to set me back?  (say I higher miler)

I\'m looking 2 spend about £9000 tops on one and I\'m thinking this would only get me a higher miler (50-60,000 miles).
Is my budget too small?

I\'ve found a few importer websites but only found 1 late Type R and that was £16,000

For 9k you are looking at an early car (92-94 probably) but for that price its possible to find ones with new engines.

Lee - is there much difference between the 92-94 models compared with the 98-99\'ers?  I know that the bhp is a tad lower but is there much difference in spec and extras.

Cheers

Not much differance at all.  The only real change is the ECU\'s which is why there is more power.  Obviously the 99 ones have the 99 spec aero kit on them.

As for specs, it depends what model you get as there are some specials - there is a stciky thread somewhere stating the difference but the options list on the FD is big anyway so its hard to tell exactly what it was sometimes.

Cheers for that.  U mentioned that the later Type R\'s had a different ECU which = more power, r u able to replace the ECU on the earlier UK spec ones to increase the power or is this a non starter?

I found that sticky thread you said about with the different specs on, but there\'s no mention of airbags being fitted.  Do you know if the Jap only Type R\'s had drivers airbags?

Cheers

Get an earlier car thats been rebuilt, or a cheap early car that needs a rebuild and budget for it. Sam is selling a nice looking black one (with MS bodykit) for £9.6K with a brand new rebuilt motor from Pip @ WGT...

I have seen Sams car and it looks great - with a rebuild it would be a great buy (standard ECU though i think).  Also Sam is a nice bloke and is a pleasure to do business with.

Ben Rose is selling his 2000 RB-S over on FDUK, nice car and a good price imo.
