Title: 1st Track day
Post by: RX7 R2 on February 28, 2007, 03:39:33 PM
I\'ve just booked my first track day, Donny 3rd March, this Sat.
It, like most has a 98db noise limit.

I have no idea how to find out how noisy my car is. I presume you can buy, beg or borrow some kind of meter you stick near the exhaust?
Anyone any ideas? Or anyone give me a clue is my car going to bu under, it\'s a standard car with a NUR spec cat back.:Hammer

Depends on what other mods your car has really.

Most FD\'s would struggle to make 98db unless running a stock exhaust system.

If you live close enough to a track they will happily noise test your car.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but with a Nur spec back box you \'ve got no chance of passing Doningtons drive by noise regs.Does the car still have a standard cat?

Driven donny many times in an FD RX-7 and the only way I managed it was with a WGT silenced midpipe and a stock Mazda catback.

Mine is 96-98 Db on the static test :D  So not all race systems are too high

Depends on the condition of the packing in the exhaust as well

If mine was to fail id go for the Racingbeat....they\'re meant to be good I believe

Oh oh, this doesn\'t sound good.

Car has no other mods what so ever just the cat back. I do have a silencer which slides in the end or a repaired apex cat back which was on it when i got it.

I\'m working in Derby tomorrow so it may be a slide down to see if they\'ll do a test as suggested above.

I know at castle coomb they used to take a walk up past the cars as they were cueing holding a sound meter & anyone who sounded a little raucus was tested & if they were over the limit they supplied a noise restrictor that was attached to the tail pipe (cind of like another silencer!!) but it over hangs the rear of the car by about 12"

Well I\'ve spoke to donnington, they only have on track meters so you have to do a lap for them to test it and they can not just let you nip on for a lap (Understandable). I can not priase the guy (Paul) up enough though. He was straight up with me and very helpful.:Thumbsup!

So contacted circuit days who are running the even. Bearing in mind I booked it less than 24 hours ago and all they will offer is a credit note. No refund what so ever.

I can\'t really say much as it\'s my fault, I should of got the car checked first. They do have a 105bd day the week after. Now just to find some one that can test it for me (without having to spend £120 in fuel to get there).

Anyone got any examples of a FD running twins that has past 105db track restrictions?:yes

I use Silverstone on noisey days GP, it\'s a track where you can open her up and give her a good run. HTH.

What mods are you running warthog?

God the list is long mate, I don\'t even have the same engine as you REW, I have an RE one with an extended port. My exhaust is a 4" and the Turbo is the biggest you can run on the road and still drive it.
You can get your Db\'s down by fitting a Feed mid-pipe box and a Feed Back Box for those two you won\'t see much change out of £800. When I was running a standard size exhaust with an HKS down pipe Feed Mid-Box and an HKS rear Box I still had problems with some tracks on high boost, that was @400 bhp atrw. If I had not had to change to a 4" exhaust to give the T51 good exhaust breathing then I would have put the Feed Back Box on.

I should of expected that.:spank

Think I\'m just going to book it and hope for the best. I\'m sure it can\'t be anywhere near as loud as these you guys are running.:wiggle

I\'ve been digging around on the computer for a few hours trying to find a db meter specificaly for exhaust sound but the only ones I\'ve found were near 2grand. (I\'m not v.good with computers though).

Cheers for the help. I should really sign up for the full membership seams all the advice I keep stealing off you guys.:flamed

Don\'t do it !!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though I\'ve seen people at donny have a single lap and then get booted off without any refund.

Its not the fault of the organiser that you are under some seriously stupid noise regulations (considering its beside an airport). The fault lies with the Local Council. The on track DB meters are run by buracrates and they have the right to close the track down if people are over the noise limit so the organiser has no choice.

If it was me i\'d take the credit note and get a quieter exhaust and go do Oulton Park. They do a single test before you go out and thats it. The track is awesome too !

It\'s gonna be one of them things I love or hate. (Marmite)

You ever done Silverstone?
Anyone got any tips on it?

I\'ve heard of people learning the track on the PS 1st. Has anyone done this? Is it really worth my time?:Typing

What date is this..............

Also if you buy the PS2 game F1 2003 it has Silverstone on it. I am no good at car games but what I did and still do is play the game, then on reply click up the cars to the front one and watch the re-run looking at the lines and talking my way through the track, ( just like co-pilot in a Rally ) it works trust me.

If I am off on the date you have got then I will join you.:driving

Im not sure if thats the best option. Forza has silverstone in and the Rx7. Toca has silverstone in. Not sure which is the most accurate.

Plus is depends on what console you have.

Silverstone always feel too flat when i\'ve played games without many pickup points.

It\'s a week on Sat, 10th March booked through //www.circuit-days.co.uk but there was only a few places left when I looked this morning.

£199 including free tuition (20 mins) and free passenger and other drivers. It would be good to have another RX there and someone with some experiance. Let me know if you decided on going.

I\'ll try the gametrick and see how I get on.

Cheers
