Title: question on my rebuilt fd
Post by: stuart wizy on February 27, 2007, 04:00:36 PM
finally got my rebuilt engine fitted back in my fd at weekend.
She runs and idles very well but I think I may have dropped a boll@k on a vacum line or a solonoid somewhere!!
Im pretty sure its all piped up correct but you never know with so many pipes and hoses.
here goes-
she starts up sweet, idles sweet but when you take her past 3000 rpm under load she dumps and cuts the revs completely back down to idle. when it does this the boost gauge flys down into vacum as if it get stuck and stops working.
Note the car can be revved up to 4000rpm of boost and the idle is perfect.
the car has a hks super blow of valve and has not been run for 3 years so I also wonder if the dv could be stuck open.
When 3000rpm is reached you can feel the first turbo kick in, then it dumps and cuts the revs, after this as happened the boost gauge stops working as if its got stuck in vacum until you leave engine switched of for a bit.
I ve only drove it up and down my street since weekend so not really started delving into it, but its pi@@ing me of!!
any ideas anyone???
thanks
stu
my first thoughts are charge release valve piped wrong or faulty dump valve.

So when you say 3k under load if the First Turbo Spooled up? Does it die when you\'d expect the second one to come in?

I\'d personaly be looking at stuff like the Vac tanks and the Check valves the correct way round (and on the right line) etc

Do you have a boost gauge? i take it your not overboosting? will it go through the rev range if its not on load.

it will rev right up the range griz with no load.
under load as soon as the boost on first turbo starts to build it either cuts fuel or spark and dumps the valve at 3000 ish rpm, the motor doesnt cut out it just goes back to idle and will then rev again.
Its drive mint up to 3000rpm but as soon as u gun it past and the boost builds this happens everytime.

its making boost on the gauge, but I havent seen it overboost because it cant rev high enough under load.

Could be the map sensor on the firewall.

good point about map sensor, will check that out.
could it be trailing plugs oiled up?????
Ive had that before on my last fd a few times.
its just been rebuilt as well with plenty of lube oil and vaseline inside!!

if it Idles sweet i doubt it would be the Map? Every time i have had a problem with it the tick over has not been smooth.

I\'m guessing you have not got a PFC fitted? Have you checked the error codes?

Maybe even a Colapsed cat???

I would bet that it\'s the secondary injectors not working properly.
Have to altered anything?

hi carl
no everything is totally standard - injectors, ecu, turbos, ports, with no boost controller. secondarys are piped up to fuel rail with 2 conectors on them.
What else could cause ecu to cut fuel or spark?? thats what it feels like, my last fd would cough and bang and miss when plugs where oiled up going past 4k but this one just dies as if the fuel is being cut -ie no bangs or smoke or anything.
