Hi,

A few questions to get the ball rolling...

Is it stock other than the exhaust and filters?
Is it running the stock ECU/Has it been re-mapped for UK fuel?
Also which exhaust is it?
Are you running a CAT or replacement pipe?
Does the car run fine other than the backfiring?
Is it popping and burbling or banging and cracking?
What sort of flames - big and round or thin and spiky? ;)

Might need mapping or might have an air leak in the exhaust could be any number of things - or it might be absolutley fine! Mine pops a lot on over run but i\'m running a single turbo and big fat exhaust with no CAT, also i dont run an air pump... Pip at WGT has mapped mine to perfection (I run Apexi PFC) and i\'d recommend him to anyone!

My advice would be to meet up with someone off here or drive it to a specialist. If you\'re not sure about it dont drive it hard til it\'s been looked over, last thing you want is to blow the bugger up.

car is stock apart from the filsters and a cat back s/s exhaust
its a non branded exhaust
running a cat as far as i know
its more or a popping and burbling
its gives out thin and spikey flames

love the questions mate, thanks for being so thourgoughghghg

TURBOIINUTTAH : thanks for that, didnt really wanna see that video! i know the body work is fcuked, but i was hoping the engine to be ok, thats y i bought it, i got a friend of mine who runs a bodyshop and can do miracles! Not so sure now, hope roy at least let it warm up, and checked the oil etc..etc...

To be honest I wouldn\'t be worried about popping and burbling from what you\'ve described. The only way to solve the \'is my engine gonna blow\' fear is to get it checked over properly mate.

Sorry mate - i just think you should have known on the off chance that you havent given him money yet.

its a hurley rebuild as well mate. so id defo get it checked.  it still needs running in.  hes crashed it not once but TWICE! im sure as hell that the chassis is all twisted too.

its not running a cat - its more or less a straight pipe from the engine and with filters - id be very worried about it running lean.

Well no flames without heat :D

If I was you sir I would pop it down to Pip to get him to give the car a once over. It could be nothing to worry about and at least hearing it from an expert will put your mind at rest. On the other hand if something is up then at least he will be able to offer advice for it :Thumbs-up

For now give him a quick bell (after 4pm) and have a chat with him he is very freindly and helpful.
Cheers
Eddie

Don\'t be too worried bud it\'s still running afterall (could be worse) just take it easy and get it checked over, that way you\'ll know for sure....

Hi. Mine was blowing flames at idle (also a hurley rebuild-check my thread, not the best experience) I think it was possibly running on only the leading or trailing plugs so wasn\'t burning too cleanly and throwing fuel out the back. Another option is a leaky injector throwing too much fuel in. Another option is its loosing compression and running too rich (like mine did). Pip will be able to tell you. Good luck mate. Wankels. They are great and **** at the same time.

Regards,

Jonathan

(PS good check is take all plugs out, connect to leads and use some jump leads clipped to the plugs for a good earth. Crank it over and check each plug has a FAT blue spark. Little sparks mean its time for new plugs. The best tool to get the plugs out is the one in the tool kit.I\'m near leicester, fly over if your close and I\'ll help out if you like. 07779 11 69 43 for any advice too)

Its not right. But I haven\'t sold many performance cars without one last blast before sale day :D

I think backfires are caused by unburnt fuel entering the exhaust, OE exhausts muffle this very well so a striaght through will make it more obvious. Flames at idle is another matter. Wankels don\'t like running rich I don\'t think, I imagine the fuel can strip the oil of the housings walls and cause accelerated wear. i really definately would get it to Pips for a run with a wideband lambda fitted to check all is ok. I didn\'t  (because I was ignorant) and my engine was very shortlived.

Does it hot start ok?

Regards,

Jonathan

Mine was pumping out flames the size of small nuclear explosions for several weeks before it popped out several apex seals from the same port!
