Title: Battery Relocation Kits
Post by: jetpilot on February 20, 2007, 04:11:29 PM
Hi Guys, will be speaking to Mods about this soon! After recently moving the battery to the rear of the car i realised there is not "kit" to do this, all individual products need to be sourced, that i am aware of! I have previously worked in the marine electronics trade so it was quite easy for me to do, but i am now thinking i am able to supply a kit mainly due to my contacts and findings. If under the terms and conditions of the forum i need to register as a vendor i will do this. I just wanted to guage an interest first as it is never likely to be hoards of owners wanting it!
I would basically supply.
Gel battery (Odyssey), all cabling (2awg), terminals, switchable 150amp contact breaker, battery posts etc!
What are your thoughts, any interest?

I believe a place in the US do a kit that comes to about £70, but you have shipping on top of that and it doesn\'t include a battery.

HI guys, ok seems a fair bit of interest so likely i will start putting this together but.... i am going to confirm this with the moderators as i want to do the right thing! The only area i feel may be down to the individual is the battery termianals themselves, so many to choose from and it will be a prefernce thing i am sure, have pm\'d a mod so will get back to you all! Check out an example of terminals here!

Jetpilot-- Just replied to your PM mate.

So that everyone knows that this is a genuine thread within the rules I am modding it.

This is only a testing the water thread ref interest in a service that will be made available through Vendor Status when Jetpilot has contacted the management.:wave

Hi Jon,

Had a look at the mail and I think the best way is for you to set this up as a group buy and this will be fine with the club with you doing this as after the AGM only "known and trusted Club members" will be able to do this .

Is this OK ?

i bought a set of those from that exact company before Xmas - havnt had chance to fit them yet, but the quality seems ok....especially when you compare it to the price of the LED display ones that some of the UK car audio places sell

Ok gents, am getting closer with this, the only problem i have now, is postage, although the Odysssey Battery weighs a lot less than standard it is still quite heavy as i am using the one with the protective metal jacket, but certainly safe to post as it is a sealed gell type! Will get some pics up soon of the cabling, contact breaker, battery etc

As previously asked, can you do this without the battery? I have an Optima Red Top so only need the kit?

Looking forward to seeing it!

Yes buddy, the battery i will sell in the kit is an Odyssey PC680MJT, this has a protective metal jacket and standard battery posts! Hoping for them to roughly work out at £80 - £90.

I\'ve just been looking at these - looks like they will be up to the job, and they are small enough to fit in the rear bins without cutting them too :Thumbs-up

I might be interested in one of these if you can get a good price - not sure whether to say this or not but the best price I’ve seen so far is £88 delivered to my door from a UK company - certainly cheaper than an optima red top

Will see if they are available but certainly wont have time to source production, the batteries i intend to supply already have metal jackets but not holders. Will look into it!

Title: Battery Relocation Kits
Post by: jetpilot on April 03, 2007, 08:28:31 PM
OK guys, have enclosed a pic of the battery, samples of the cable and contact breaker! I am still undecided on the type of terminals to use as to crimp anything on to this size cable you will need a crimping tool, which are not cheap, just looking into the possibilities of eyelets that use an allen screw fastening, any thoughts welcome or if you want to source them yourself let me know! I can always get a battery earth terminal put on one end of the earth and then you can adjust yourself as necessary for length and then add the allen screw fastening eyelets!
So at present, for:
Odyessey PC680 MJT  (metal jacket and automotive posts)
3 metres of red 2awg cable
1 metre of black 2awg cable
150 amp breaker (flush mount)
1 battery earth cimped on
Price would be £150 + postage or collection

I\'ll check the bank but as I already have a breaker I\'d be after the battery with 2 metres of red 2awg cable and 1 metre of black 2awg cable. (need to measure but enough to fit the battery under the passenger seat). Got the height to hand I seem to recall its 70-78mm?

I would like to know how to do this: Ive got a yellow top battery and 2 fuses at 60 but dont know if the fuses need to be bigger.  The cable ive got says on it 20mm square but does that need to be bigger to?
Title: Battery Relocation Kits
Post by: jetpilot on April 29, 2007, 09:10:48 PM
You will probably find 20mm squared is about 4 awg, to small really, and 60 amp fuses will most likely blow as soon as you crank the engine!
Title: Battery Relocation Kits
Post by: MikeLMR on April 29, 2007, 09:13:26 PM
sizing the fuses should be easy, the fuse is there to protect the large cable, pick a fuse that matches the maximum working current of the cable you are using

Perfect timing for a thread update!

I\'d like to get another Odessey battery as my last one decided to start smoking, that\'ll teach me to buy off ebay (I think it was dodgy)! I just need a PC680 or PC680MJ as I already have all the cables installed and a set of terminals.
