Just in the process of changing my engine out, due to water seal failure, just discovered I do not have a cat in the system, whats the deal with MOT and no cat, can I get away with it as its a 95 import, and what about the oil burning up in the cat with rotory engines.
Does anyone have a cat going for sale, problem is the car came with a Supermagna system from japan, 3.5 bore all the way till it meets the downpipe.
Also the car is running rich so i suspect it was never mapped after the exhaust was changed, can someone recommend a tuner near aberdeen who can remap the rx.
may help if you say what ecu it has fella. or perhaps just borrow a cat as im not sure anyone can map if the car doesnt run.
standard ecu, hks panel filter
Doesnt a 95 have to have installed?
Fish
yip its only 93 or under that get away with the 3.5% test.
when will the car be ready??
and im not saying i WILL pass it but im sure ill do a fair test on it
I think you\'ll find that pre 95 imports can get away with no cat. Well mines a 94 and passed with no cat?
as long as its an import and passes the 3.5% then no cat is needed.
i forgot about the import rule
Thanks all, I\'ve finished the engine swap and apart from flooding it due to forgetting to charge the battery, Its up and running, noticed a water leak tonight, so tomorrow I\'ll strip out the airbox and get a good look. All thats needed is new reg plates to fit as the old ones were to small, weld a split in the rear silencer rim, Oh and seal the rear window as water is dripping out of the boot lifters, came across a loose outer window seal just at the curve next to drivers door, I\'ll pump it full of silicone and then its time to pick an Mot station locally. Only got 3 weeks left gaurantee on the engine, so it better not pop a seal.
This was the first time I\'ve done an engine swap on an RX and to be honest its not that bad, I\'m not a mechanic just a tight jock, OK the engine might go sooner than a rebuild but now I can strip my old engine down and rebuilt it , port it etc, well thats the plan....lol
Also I buffed the whole engine down and polished all the ancillaries etc, I\'ll be spewing if it has to go back to the breakers, but I guess there would be a catch about the gaurantee.
I\'ll let you know how it goes with the test, hopefully this week.
The "non-cat" law is actually pre June 1995.
Car failed the MOT but only on the fog light and indicator not working properly, quick fix this morning. I\'m well chuffed about the emissions.
Just as I went into the garage to start it up to go for the MOT it flooded again, now I carry blow torch, rag, sparkplug socket, and my trusty pipette for squirting oil into the plug holes, but at this rate I\'m going to wear out the securing clips for the EGI fuse.....lol.
I hate the fear of going in to pay for fuel and it not starting again......
so just to clarify (sp) imports can be put through the no cat test (3.5) no matter wot age, i ask cuz mine is 97 and is going to be needing a new ticket in a couple of months and has no cat

why does it keep flooding? what plugs are you using? its not normal for it to do that or you to have to do that.
running new ngk bur9\'s top and bottom, cars on the road taxed etc and seems to be starting everytime now, thinking back I had started it from cold and put it in the garage, run for a few minutes and then shut it off. next day I had the problem starting it. New problem is its not very fast anymore, hose popped off at inlet manifold(above gearbox bell housing, next to bulkhead), fixed it and much better, but suspect another pipe is leaking somewhere. I have the RE boost gauge with steering wheel boss cover, but it reads in kg/m2, I only seem to be getting 0.5 max, anyone know the conversion to bar or psi
I think you want a pattern of roughly 0.7-0.5-0.7 as it\'s basically bar I think....type it into google it\'s very good at picking up conversions in searches :)

its 7 psi or 7.25 exactly. i dont agree with prodb though as the pattern i think you looking for if standard is 0.8 bar to 4.5k rpm then 0.6 for 1 second ish then 0.8 to redline sometimes dropping off a little after 6k rpm but that should be it.
i would assume you have a problem with a check valve, double throttle, turbo or wastegate precontrol solenoid perhaps (they are the easy ones bolted to the front of the plenum. or maybe an ignition wiring problem but i may be help further if you need it just give me a call.
first and foremost i would check the easy bits all couplers and intercooler pipes (i can guide you through it if need be - but TAKE THEM OFF dont just look is my advice as you can easily miss leaks) and all check valves.
Thanks guys, M4drx, after reading up a few boost problems, I\'m sure its a hose somewhere as I replaced a few when i rebuilt the engine back up and should have maybe used glue on the ones without clips, I\'m going to pull the plenum and double check, see if i can find clips for them all. I cant overtake anything because the power drops when the second turbo should kick in. Good thing about this is that my 520 BMW feels fast now.......lol.
just an idea, when i had a flooding problem on an fc i used to have, i was told that before i switch the engine off i should hold the revs at 2000-2500rpm then turn the ignition off while keeping my foot in the same position when holding it at 2000rpm and i now do the same on my fd. i sought of got into the habit of doing it all the time, and haven\'t had the engine flood once.
just some advice i\'d share, try and let me know if it stops it flooding
