Title: Effini Y Pipe
Post by: GaseJo on February 19, 2007, 07:58:58 PM
Hi,

Could anyone let me know the difference between a Effini Y Pipe & a standard one. And if you have an Effini car does it come as standard with an Effini Y Pipe?

Cheers Garith.

no the later cars came with a efini y pipe i think pot 99. an efini y pipe is a metal version of the stock one that attched directly onto a metal crossover pipe wihtout the need for a coupler (the infamous y pipe coupler) thus reducing the risk of leaks

On an Efini Y-pipe the actual y-pipe is slightly different from stock. Difficult to explain how they are different without a picture to compare the two.

The cross-over pipe (i.e. the pipe that comes from the y-pipe and goes to the intercoller) is metal rather than plastic and this metal pipe bolts onto the y-pipe rather than using a plastic coupler.

Efini Y-pipes I think were standard from 1999 on...then again it could have been 96, I forget which

So as mine is a 94 then i presume the one on mine is not an Efini. So can you clarify the Y Piece of metal bolted to the turbo\'s with the big hose that connects to the BOV is the y-Pipe and the difference between this and the efini y-Pipe is that the pipe from this to the IC is metal and bolted on.

I Borrowed this picture from another thread.

As I understand it the Y-pipe is the y shaped (funnily enough) pipe that connects to the turbo. The cross-over pipe is the broad bit that connects to the intercooler

I could be wrong though.

ALL y-pipes are metal, its the cross-over pipe that is metal on the Efini Y-pipe and plastic on the normal one.

EDIT: in the picture that Y-pipe is a normal y-pipe, on the efini version that little pipe on the v of the y is at a different angle for a better flow.

you are right the black pipe called the crossover pipe that goes from the y pipe accross the engine next to the alternator etc and goes to the intercooler pipe is metal and bolts directly on to a efini y pipe instead of the stock plasctic black one connecting to the y pipe with a coupler in between.

This is my efini y pipe (ignore the 2 HKS IC hard pipes in the top left)...you can see how it bolts together....) that firstt pic of yours is my old y-pipe section

Cheers Guys,

I can see the difference now. So what sort of difference would one of these make to a stock twin setup?

Cheers Garith.

not much difference in flow...its more there to eliminate the old boost issues you get when a rubber coupler leaks boost or when a plastic crossover pipe starts leaking boost....it also leaks better...especially when polished!

I fitted mine last week with hard pipes, definitey noticed a big difference in performance with the boost gauge shooting up faster and higher boost than i ever had before, perhaps i had a leak!
Good mod!well pleased,
cheers Bob
