Ive just replaced my radiator bottle on my gen 3 as i had a front end smash. After changing the radiator this weekend i noticed that the fluid was spilling from a tiny hole in the top of the bottle after i had been running the engine at operating temp. This never happened before and im just wondering if anyone can shed some light. Ive checked all the connections and pipes and they are fine, but this doesnt seem normal.
Which radiator bottle do you mean? Is it the expansion tank in the drivers side wing or the ast to the right of the alternator?
Bottle in the drivers side wing with the filler neck just behind pop up light.
it is supposed to leak from the area where the filler neck joins the bottle... or rather, its not actually fixed in there, its just resting in it. Not sure if there should be a hole there though... i thought it was just the filler neck sitting in the hole in the top of the tank.
I\'m assuming you know that at as you approach operating temp the coolant water expands and the expansion tank (the one in the drivers side wing) is used to hold the extra water till the system cools down again.... as it cools, some water is sucked back into the systyem to maintain the right level.
(grannys sucking eggs etc) :)
Ill have another look but im sure its got a tiny hole on top of bottle next to feed pipe from rad. Maybe its just an overflow? I might have put a lil too much fluid in to start with so maybe just equalised the amount.
yeah, it is supposed to overflow if over filled
(I know that from bitter experience :)
well hopefully its sorted itself out now. engine is runnin smooth so fingers crossed.
