Title: bit excited...
Post by: Archbish on February 18, 2007, 01:48:02 PM
Well, I just wanted to see if the gearbox mount would fit.  and it did (after a bit of work) so then I just wanted to see if it was strong, so I did this (//www.archbish.com/DSC01408.JPG)

It still needs the engine mounts done, and the sump sorted, butit does look kinda neat in there, don\'t it...

Thanks dude - it does kinda get the juices flowing *grin*

Esp as it was the shell only when I got it from Mr Kiwimazda - and before that it had a pinto engine in it, so it\'s the first time a rotary engine has been in that bay for some years (even if it is only sitting on a plank... :D)

Nice work. What are you going to do about the tubo and the steering box issue??

Something.... *grin*

Well, I have been told that rotating the turbo manifold means that the turbo can fit.

Alternatively, if this proves to not be the case, I\'llbe making midnight phonecalls to australia to try and get a manifold and downpipe from someone like Pac Racing or similar.

Should be interesting, if nothing else...  There\'s another near guildford - i think it has a hybrid turbo in.

FD is volunteering to stand outside while the other car is in peices (I don\'t think it want\'s to swap places... *GRIN*)  I think theres a good couple of years left til it has to be replaced!!

And I dont\' think I\'ve any space for a whole front end...  Although the spare room is a bit empty...

Just got a pm yesterday I think from tony and he said that it was Tim who did it but it was ages agi. I too was asking about rack stuff.

Tim did my conversion but it was 10 years ago and i think he would never do it again as it was quite griefy.

I nearly did the FC/FB conversion again and i was going to just bolt the whole TII subframe to the FB chassis rails. Its only 4 bolts.  That way you get the 13b engine mounts in the right place, decent power steering, excellent brakes and more choice on shocks.

Thats what we did on the FD Tripple, it was a days work maximum.  Just need to make 4 good mounting points to bolt subframe to and measure the points for the top of the shocks.  If you use an FD subframe, it doesnt matter about the top of the shocks as the FD camber is set by the top wishbone but you would need make a point on the inner wing to mount the top wishbone.

Edited to say:  I have an FC subframe with steering rack ready to collect if someone wants one.

Michael,   empty your mailbox i cant reply,

here is what i tried to reply

 Cheers for the tech support:Thumbsup!
Just thinking that if i was to put the rack in front of the struts on the moggy then surely when I turn left the car would go right as I would have moved the steering arms to the front of the struts???
 ![/QUOTE]

its funny you should mention that, i remember Tim having that issue, it was funny at the time :D

I would have to see the car to remember what we did, but thinking about it, the FC rack works the right way in front of the engine, you are just fitting it in the same place on the FB/Moggy.  I think the FC track ends attach infront of the wheels and when we swapped the FB ones it worked.  But i am kinda guessing :3Confused

I might be interested in the subframe if I can find some one willing to fit it for me (I\'ll ask Tim).

I have a 12AT, would that work with an FC sub frame?

Where abouts do you live antnicuk?  I\'m in Tunbridge Wells.

Cheers

Just spoken to Tim, he\'s up for it.  I beleive you are seeing him Monday?  If we can sort it out in time you could bring it down with you perhaps.

(If you get this in time)

Give me a ring & let me know what you want for it.

Cheers
