Title: Pulling the wiring loom through the firewall?
Post by: probedb on February 17, 2007, 07:20:30 PM
How the hell do you do this?

I\'ve unscrewed the ABS unit so I can get a bit more space under there but it won\'t budge :( It\'s the only step of removing the engine I haven\'t managing the engine I can\'t do.

I\'ve unplugged all 4 plugs in the car as well as the ECU earthing lead and made sure they\'re all loose but I can\'t shift the gromit itself?

Any suggestions?

it should come if you release the grommet from the engine bay side and then push it thru from inside the footwell. I barely had to use any force at all...

I can\'t get my fingers under the sides of the gromit with my finger tips, don\'t think I have enough strength in my fingers.

Make sure you have got all the Plugs (there is one under the dash for the clocks i think)

Its also easyer if you get a second set of hands to push the loom through while you feed it round the ABS etc (its a goot job for some one small that can get in the car upside down so there head is in the Footwell)

You don\'t have to remove the ABS just take the Mounting bolts out and CARFULLY!! move it slightly to get a bit more Space (you don\'t want to damage any Pipes)

i think i used a longish screwdriver to release the grommet. once its released, the whole loom should come really easily

Urm not to second guess you but don\'t touch the Grommet with anything sharp, if you damage that Gromit you will get a Water leak from hell.

I\'d say get some space and just Pull the Loom whilst pushing the Gromet in at the Top.

Large flat bladed screwdriver 1, gromit 0 ;) It\'s not ripped or anything I just managed to get enough leverage to pull it through...tomorrow I\'ll climb in head first and push it through. I could only find 4 plugs when I disconnected them...this is all that\'s mentioned in the guide I found too.

Thanks for the pointers :)

4 plugs? there are 4 on the ecu which means you missed one at the top where it goes through the Bulkhead (from memory its white or Yellow)

there is a blue or white plug at the top you need to disconnect as well as the 4 yellow plugs on the ecu

I did disconnect them all, they just looked like 2 of them darted off somewhere else.....I\'ll get myself into an uncomfortable position and push it through today :) I unplugged the 2 non-ECU plugs as well. Thanks again everyone.

Sorted it.

Only 2 of the ECU connectors need to be unplugged....there\'s 4 connectors that come through in total.
