Right then yesterday I was driving home from work an wasn\'t exactly going slow. That not to say i was redlining the engine, but. I changed from 3rd to 4th and was accelerating when the engine suddenly lost power and started to make a sort of grinding noise (thats the best was I can describe it!) it was also very load! Anyway I immediatly pulled up in a layby to have a look. As soon as I pulled up the engine cut out, I tried starting it again which it did but cut out again when i took my foot aff the accelerator.
The oil pressure seems fine, and the water temp seems fine so im pretty sure its not the engine itself. Theres no blue smoke coming from the exhaust, but its as though the turbo\'s arent working as the boost guage wont go past 0, but still idles at -5.
Im really hoping that this is just part of the exhaust that has broken loose somewhere.
Anyone with any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers Marcus
At first, it does sound like you have chipped a seal in the engine. Is your boost gauge fluctuating when you switch the car on? And by how much?
Also, what ECU were you running.
Check to see the map sensor is still intact.
However, from what you say about giving car WOT and down shifting etc. If it was on stock ECU then I would say engine.
Anyway, do check the boost gauge etc and map sensor and report back.
All th best.
Also, how did you get the car home. Is it driving? Does the car seem shaking when you start the car.
I actually drove the car home as it was only about 2 miles.
Im running a standard ecu on a 93 import.
I\'ll go and check the boost guage reading now.
Right then I\'ve just checked the boost guage and yes it is fluctuating.
Sounds unfortunatly like internal engine damage to me ... :(
A fluttering boost gauge on idle is not a good indication mate :-/
Find some one near with a compression tester of some kind would be the easiest course of action, that will tell you if the motor is intact or not before you start pullling stuff off for the sake of it.
Oh B*lls not what i was hoping to hear
Sounds similar to what happened to mine - except I had a loud pop and the engine sounded like a lawn mower.
Not sounding good - but best of luck mate!
Yeah thats it it sounds like a lawn mower!!!!!
Anyone got the number for that guy at retford???
Think he\'s the closest person to me
Sorry to hear that mate. It is always the dreaded with these cars in my case anyway. :(
Hopefully you havent caused too much damage to the engine.
Keep us updated.
First thing you want to do is join MRC as a full member - you can get discounts on everything including rebuilds (from Hayward I think). It will pay for its self over and over again.
Every little helps!
Out of interest, how many miles had you done? was it a rebuild?
It was a doner engine from a breaker as my original engine had blown due to a water seal failure. Engine had a rebuild approx 12000 miles before i bought it, and it has since done approx another 30000miles so wont be able to get it done through warrenty unfortunatly.
In regards to becoming a full member, i\'ve always considered it as i\'ve been on here for years but never seen any benefit to it.
Have been offered an engine that was rebuild by Pip 10000 miles ago for £800 with proof of rebuild so think im gonna get that instead of a rebuild
hopefuly gonna grab Nas (turboIInutter)after the weekend as he has a compression tester and lives only 10 mins away, so will know either way pretty soon

Now thats a slap in the face for the \'Free\' help you seem to have gotten here over the years! Wonder how many thousands you have saved from the \'FREE\' advise you found on here....
Example now, why didn\'t you just go to a dealer/mechanic and let him charge you a couple hundred for test or whatever to tell what we have told you today for free!
It\'s ok mate, us \'paying members\' will continue to pay for the upkeep of this site so other gratefull people will appreciate the friendly advise we offer and put together for the benifit of all.
I think your future advise here may now be limited..... :Yawn
Trex
It\'s no secret we don\'t agree on much, but I\'m with you on this.
John
have to say making that statement about no point is a slap in the face after asking for free help and advice..see wgt have no not bothered to advertise.guess they figure they are well enough known now so dont need mrc.sad state of affairs imo
yea - i keep tellin him to stop bein a cheap skate..
i joined because i felt that all the advice you lot gave me was worth the measley 25 quid. such a small price to pay to be in a "crew". the fact wgt havent advertised this year i suppose is a bad thing.. think ill take my business to carl!! thread is goin off topic
ill make him join!! otherwise no help!
Hey, Marx
What did you do with your old engine? And what will you do with this one if its blown?
Still got the old engine with water seal faliure
I dont mean to sound ungrateful to the forum, but if you look at it from my point of view, i\'ve been using the site since 2004 and only only posted 90 odd times so £25 each year for 3 years (£75) would not be worth my while
EDIT: Cba!

i joined last year, it cost £25 and i saved £45 on insurance:confused: . thats not to mention aa/rac cover and the money that the club chips into events like the dyno day at thor.:Typing :Talking1
matt
ps you should look at selling the old engines as they have been making good money latley, help pay for your new engin and membership.:Thumbsup!
I can\'t see that the post count is relevant, surely it is more a case of how much help and information has been received from reading and gaining benefit from the vast array of information that is provided for FREE.
I\'ve said this quite a few times now, I bought an RX7 new it was unusual and that I would need to seek advice.
I don\'t like taking anything for nothing so I joined.
Felt much better about asking questions, but that\'s just me.
