So I\'m getting to the point where I wanna start sorting the Brakes, Suspension and wheel options for the 1st gen before I get to putting the engine in (reason being, once the engine is in, I\'ll be all overexcited about getting it running, and not do this other stuff...)
So might as well start at the suspension... What are my options here? Frankly, it seems to be pretty limited to tokico shocks and \'suspension specialities\' springs - does anyone rate these? And is there an alternative?
Second thing is brakes. I would like to put in bigger discs and calipers - is this much work? or a brake swap - any ideas? Alternatively we are back to the upgrade - which I know Gary has black diamond discs.
Finally it\'s wheels - assuming that the stock wheel setup is maintained, what are the wheel details? 4 x ???, offset ???
Cheers in advance for any help with this stuff!!

OK got the offset and stuff from this thread -> http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279
114 x 4, 40mm offset.
its difficult to uprate the front brakes as the bearings are pressed into the discs unlike the conventional system. On my first gen I had Black diamond discs and Hawk pads, with decent fluid the brakes were really good but i also put it down to good condition working callipers. If you overhall all your callipers, put new discs, pads and fluid they will be plenty good enough for road and track days.
You will be quite happy with New Tokiko shocks and springs, like you say there isnt a great deal of choice, but that set up will work quite well. I had them on mine. Replace as many rubber bushes as you can, it will make a big difference on the car. You can get poly ones to do a lot of them, its just a metter of looking around or you find a complete kit if you are lucky.

depends on what you want to do with the car ie street or fast street/drag etc
but you can always change things after you get it on the road, otherwise sometimes it never gets on the road :)
what series is it ?
series 1, vented discs fr, drum rear, 4x110 pcd
series 2, vented discs fr, solid discs rear, 4x110 pcd
series 1/2 interchangable ie diff axles etc, 24 spline axles
series 3 vented discs fr, vented discs rear, 4x114.3, has studs in hubs/axles not threaded holes, 26 spline axles
you can fit series 3 suspesion to series 1/2, series 3 has more of a fwd offset
i think there is other threads bout the brakes :)
suspension you can get the off the shelf shocks springs etc or there are companies in england that can do coil over adjustable complete struts for around 250 each strut, you supply your strut for the hub part.
brakes, upgrade standard cheapest option especially if you only have a normally aspirated engine, i would only goto s 4/5 if had 13BT engine, but you can use s 4/5 and keep 4 stud with series 4/5 disc caliper or use s 4/5 hub onto your stub axle, then have 5 stud
wheels, 4x114.3 common to get nice wheels 4x110 not common, or if you change brakes to s 4/5, 5x114.3 common for nice wheels
hope helps

I do have a 13BT engine, but kinda got lost with your options on the S4/5 bits... I don\'t suppose you could clarify what you mean, could you??? Thanks for the answers!

no worries,
option 1, use rx7 s1/2/3 hubs remove or machine disc off hub, enough for series 4/5 disc to fit over, redrill to 4 stud pcd, make mounting bracket for series 4/5 caliper
option 2, remove original brakes/hubs get spacer machined to fit series 4/5 alloy hub, fit s4/5 discs make mounting bracket for caliper, then redrill rear discs and axles to 5 stud pcd
but if you only have a standard 13BT or just exhaust/intake standard brake with good disc and reco calipers will do
what series rx7 do you have ?

Ah - that does make more sense. I think I prefer the idea of option 2, if only because it means that later brake maintenance will be easier...
Well I have a series 3 with a T2 engine currently sitting in the engine bay - albeit on planks *grin*.
(I also have an FD, but that\'s a different discussion)
Whiteline do a full upgrade option for the FB. You may need to import the stuff from america though.
I\'ve ordered a full set of poly bushes, expecting them v.soon. Worked out £115 with postage (before import duty).
Shaun
Edit - Doh I put FD instead of FB :D
