Title: Brake lights
Post by: Kron on February 15, 2007, 09:23:08 PM
Does anyone know why Mazda decided that only 2 of the 4 circular brake lights come on when you touch the pedal of a UK FC compared to the US and Japan where all four illuminate?

Or is my car setup wrong?

Just curious :D

Some one once told me that the US regs require a set area of Brake light (don\'t know if its true or not)

It would look better with all four lights Coming on with the Brakes.

All 4 bulbs and holders are dual fillament, so it\'s an easy job to wire the other pair in.  I actually turned my inner pair into Fog lights, and put another reversing light on the drivers side instead.

Bridge a wire between the 2 lights one requried on each side.:cool

When you look at the back of the cluster, you will have one spare unused connector on the inner pair - just solder a wire onto that, and feed it to the adjacent light - picking up the brake light signal on that one - job done.

Interestingly, the 6 pin harnesses are wired with reversing light signals for both sides, but only have the fog wire on one side on UK models - easy enough to wire across another pin for that.

I am using LED lamps in the back, and had to wire diodes in series with all the lights to prevent unwanted interactions due to crass design of them
