Post by: mjwebb48 on February 14, 2007, 01:26:07 PM
Hi All,

Have searched back through threads and not got anything conclusive.
I`m 6`3" and want to change seats as they are tatty, will be doing track time in car and would like to fit some fixed buckets.
Can any peeps that  have them fitted let me know what they have got. I dont want to get some and then not be able to use them.
Going in a 93 fd.

Cheers

Mat

I have the mazdaspeed seats

They are damned expensive to get hold of, and require the mazdaspeed rails to fit.  The rails sit the seats 10 mm lower than stock.  They are very comfortable, they were designed for endurance racing.  The bolsters are aggressive, but not uncomfortable.  I always hate buckets when the shoulder section pushes your shoulders too far forward.  These don\'t do that.

I am 5ft 9, and have the seat 3 clicks forward from full extension, so ^ft 3 would be perfectly manageable I am fairly certain.

Imported from Japan, via http://www.members-crescent.net/cgi-bin/login.cgi Crescent shop.

You have to register, then do a search for FD3S, you will have about 300 pages to wade through, you will eventually find the seats.  The guy sells them with the rails, IIRC I paid something like £320 per seat and rail kit, then you have shipping and import duty.  They are awesome seats, superb quality and they really look the part also..

He also sells them outside of Crescent, so it would be worth emailing him and asking for a direct shipment to you if interested.  Crescent are good but will charge you a commission on anything you buy from them.

You can also find them on http://www.japanparts.com/

would you mind me asking what you paid for shipping, and how much did you get stung by customs?  i suppose i could stop being lazy and ask crescent how much they charge for shiping on seats, and work out the duty and stuff from the other stuff i\'ve bought through Crescent, but figured it would be easier to ask you first  :Thumbs-up

Hi Mat - no, stereo is still in the box!  Hopefully I\'ll get the RX back on the road this week, cant remember if i said about the rear disc problem?  Well anyway Black Diamond are replacing them under warrenty, which is nice and they should be here monday!  Then all I need to do is get the Civic back on the road and out of my garage (dont ask  :Hammer   ) and then i can get on with stuff on the RX like trying to fit my seats and stereo!!  They are Sparco Milano\'s in blue acantera so will match the paintwork nicely - but from my rough try before i\'m not convinced they\'ll fit.....watch this space

they look like this by the way - http://www.ab-tuning.ru/!sparco/tuning/s/h/00944A-Milano2-darkblue.jpg (http://www.ab-tuning.ru/!sparco/tuning/s/h/00944A-Milano2-darkblue.jpg)

Jetpilot -  I presume you mean you\'re after a matching seat rather than a matching rail?  Do you have a picture of the one you have got?

If you don\'t mind me asking how did you find dealing with Crescent? I was thinking about buying some stuff off there but was a bit put off by the Distance the idea of buying something then having it sent to a third party who reroutes it on, it oviously works but your the first person that has atualy used it. Hence the Intrest ;)

I so far have found dealing with Crescent to be an easy exercise in emptying my wallet

Seriously though, its actually very easy, and i would say they are very proffessional.  I\'ve not had to deal with them personally as i\'ve not needed to ask any questions about items being auctioned and i\'ve not had any problems and i\'ve had 3 parcels with various bits in so far and a fourth on its way soon!  All the emails i\'ve had are computer generated (i would have thought) to let me know i have won items, thank me for paying and to advise my parcel is on its way.

There is actualy a sticky on it here - http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29169
good luck and have fun if you take the plunge!

they are very professinal, and they pack all items very well indeed.  But shipping is pricey.  Think I paid about £90 import on the seats, and the actual EMS shipping was around $400 usd IIRC

£90 for Two seats??? thats good.

I\'ve been told on most things expect too pay twice what the Auction finishes at, does that sound about right once every thing is paid?

thinking about it thats probably about right, my first parcel was about 500 quids worth of goods and the duty and VAT was about 100 quid.

dunno mate, there are lots of different rails available on the japanese auctions though both new and used - what make of seat is it for?

I only imported 1 seat, bought the other off a forum member on here.

I can\'t remember the exact costs.  I noted however that the seller I bought it off, had a website where he sold them outside of crescent so if you find him on there, could bypass them by phoning him direct.

I\'ve got a couple of bride seats that I\'ve, so far, failed to find decent (low) runners for so I can fit in with a helmet on.  A real pain in the arse mainly.

Quote from: jetpilotWell it came with a sparco, but sure any could be fitted!

I was 99% certain that Sparco dont make frames for the RX7 or any Mazda for that matter according to their websites.  But searching on the japanese yahoo auctions does find sparco/fd3s seat bases for bottom mount and side mount seats ranging from about 40 to 65 quid each.  i may well buy some if i think i can get my sparco seats to fit.......better than faffing about with universal ones which is your other option of course.

why do you need a matching rail if you only had one seat though?

So the passenger seat sits the same! This was originally base mounted to the Sparco seat, the seat rail is marked but its in Japanese as you might see in the pic. If you see any the same buddy, let me know.

The Ergo II seats must be used with either R0 or RX type seat rails.

RO is recommended, but there will be a little offset required to make the seat(s) fit in the limited space an RX-7 offers.
