Hi
Just bought myself a black FD. It\'s a 92 model (from Japan) and should be arriving in the UK in a few weeks time. I\'ve always loved the look of this car and am quite excited at the prospect of owning one.:D
I really love the Veilside kit and would be interested in purchasing one to fit to the car. As I have never been through the process of having a body kit fitted, is it as simple as sticking the panels on or is their other works involved also?
The car has the following mods;
Greddy piping/Turbo
Trust /Intercoler
RE Amamiya Alminium radieter
Blitz/EVC boost controler
Gauges/oil temp+ pressur
Engine dumper
Master cylinder stopper
HKS RS/air filter
HKS/exhaust pipe
Coil over sus
Some of you guys have got great looking cars and i find myself getting quite excited just looking at the pics!!! Is that normal or do I have to go see a doc??
Cheers
Congratulations on your new car. Hope it brings loads of smiles.
Very normal to get excited about looking at RX\'s.
Bodykits really depend on the quality of them. Veildside is not to everyones taste but I hear they are good quality but I know they are expensive for genuine stuff. Veildside style bodykits will vary in quality leading to more time required to fit them, and obviously the end result might be effected by a poor quality bodykit. I\'m sure someone else can help you out that has been through this recently.
Your car looks to have a good spec to it. I would mention that personally I would invest in an Apexi PFC and get it mapped asap as those mods running on UK fuel (you should only use 98/99 ron fuel, v-power etc) will probably mean the car will run lean and that aint good. An Apexi PFC fitted and mapped could be about £600ish pounds but well worth it. Also get the car fully checked over once it lnds by an RX specialist.
I\'ve maybe gone on a bit now but hopefully it will help.
Cheers Steve. Having owned an Evo, I\'m used to the hole in the pocket that v-power and a heavy throttle foot brings:D
I\'ll look into the PFC - thanks for the advice.
Also, i\'m based in Luton. Are their any RX specialists in the area that anyone would recommend?
+1 on the PFC
And id also go for a good quality water temp gague as a must + a boost gauge.
Thanks Steve. I\'ll bear that in mind.......
Anyone got advice on the body kit???
They are never easy to fit, even the best of them usually need some sort of modifying, we only fit about 2 a year but it allways takes longer than antisipated.
They will obviously require paint and depending on how they are mounted they will require a bit of bodywork.
My advice is do everything reliabilty wise 1st then think about cosmetics when the car runs nice.
Reliability mods 1st then maybe perchase a PFC then a wideband then a datalogit for them to talk to eachother, you will then be looking after your engine then and saving yourself a fortune in the long run.
Then think about your bodykits.
This is all just friendly advice so you dont end up posting how you just got it looking nice when the motor went.
BTW perchasing the bodykit is usually only half the cost of actually getting it on your car, i can get a nice quality replica cwest front bumper for £200 but painting would be about £180 and fitting would prolly be about £100, thats £480 for somthing that started out looking like £200.
We import from Veilside Japan, which kit are you after?
Wise words from Steve, always allow time for fitting kits, Ive seen the same kit fit differently on cars, not the kit that sometimes varries but the cars seem to as well

Do you import Cwest bumpers as well ?

I\'m after the C1 kit. But don\'t know if i can afford the originals.:2Confused Would be quite content with copys. I saw someone on ebay selling a c1 copy for about £385 (not including the rear spoiler).
I think thats more my price range. Especially as Steve has recommended all these reliability mods!! I haven\'t got the car yet and it seems to be costing me already!!

Most often in my experience. The replica bodykits have a horrendous fit and can cost twice as much to fit on and spray.
I supplied a few kits from Japan just as Gary. What you\'d find is majority of the kits from the manufacturers in Japan especially Veilside, RE-A, Burnout have an excellent fit to them.
my 2p.
Is there anyone out there that has fitted a replica C1 kit? If so, how did it go??

2p well spent, I agree.
how much did the shipping cost ?
Congrats on the purchase. My only advice is , if its still go the jap rubber on, change it ASAP, it will catch you out in the wet.

It sure does, but many peeps on here have fallen foul of crap jap rubber giving them a scare.

Thank You :wave
Looking forward to my first drive in a couple of weeks time:3gears-rh
I hope it\'ll give me a bigger grin than my Evo did.......and that was a large grin:D. In fact, I still grin when I think about that car......
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the pleasures of the motor car :InLove

I think it\'s more to do with the tarmac in Japan and their rubber compounds to suit. I\'ve still got Jap tyres on my GT4 and they are fine in dry and snow, but any wetness and it\'s slide time... which is why I\'ve kept them on for the fun factor!:driving
Can understand why you should change tho with a RWD with that much power!
Bit more controllable in a 200bhp 4WD..!

Thanks for the advice.
......And the expenses continue to mount!!!!! Are you lot welcoming me or trying to scare me off!
The car is fitted with the original wheels (I think), gold colour 5 spoke. So I will probably want to get a different set of rims and will probably get them covered in a good rubber too.
Just hoping that March will be a nice dry month!!
Ha ha sorry, just dont want you to damage your new pride and joy. I\'m sure you\'ll love it. I ran mine on jap tyres for a couple of months and they were no problem in the dry, but give it in any boost in the wet and the back would go even at low speeds. Swapped them out for some toyos and the difference was unreal.
Enjoy your new motor !

I doubt that you can read too much into someone\'s/anyone\'s experience fitting a "replica" kit unless you\'re buying from exactly the same source as said person. A lot of "replicas" are knocked up by a bloke in a shed, using a bad mould off another "replica" etc blah blah.
I\'m very wary of knockoff kit and that is something I\'ve learned by buying "cheap" in the past. In the long run, it was almost always false economy because it ended up costing more. These days I\'d rather pay for quality (and buy used if I can\'t/don\'t want to afford buying new). If you get a bad fitting knockoff kit that requires lots of additional hours at the bodyshop and a couple of tins of filler in order to fit at all, you aren\'t going to be too happy either.
As everybody else has said, spend the money on getting the mechanical side of the car sorted first. As your research on this and other forums has most likely shown to you, FDs are bargain supercars mostly in the buying them stakes and as you\'re just finding out they aren\'t the cheapest cars to own. There\'s not much point if you have it sitting pretty on your drive because you chose to spend the money on cosmetics instead of the basic safety mods suggested here.
Not trying to discourage you in any way as I think these are great cars - do things right and you\'ll have a lot of fun with it :Thumbsup!.
This is the beauty of forums......all this sincere advice! I think I\'ve already talked myself out of a replica kit and probably out of a veilside kit as I \'ve seen a few others that take my fancy.
My pleasure in cars has always been in the performance stakes first and foremost, looks are secondary......so I take all the advice and will be ensuring that the car is mechanically sound and looked after BEFORE i tart her up!
I hope you are all saving some well looked after second hand parts for me....I will be shopping real soon!!!
have black fd\'s been abolished from japan, there seems to be millions of them arriving everyweek! lol, hope yours brings u all the smiles and brown stains mine has brought to me lol

Maybe they don\'t like the rubber they are on so are leaving their country in droves (or should that be convoys?)
Thanks, can\'t wait to get behind the wheel and I\'ll make sure i put some plastic on the seat before i put my foot down :2eek
