Title: FD nose paint (noob question)
Post by: Grub2000 on February 12, 2007, 08:10:28 PM
I have spent quite a while looking at FDs that are for sale.
I have noticed that a high proportion of them appear to have a front bumper that is a slightly different colour to the rest of the car.
Is this a trick of the light or a common problem?

Trying to match bumpers to paint on metal can be hard for sprayers as they have to mix it differently.

On metalics it can be a pain in the rear but usaly its more down to the Bumpers being painted at a diffrent plant then assembled (so they may be slightly off shade) its all about being cost effective.

Look at 70% of new cars and you\'ll see it.

Also The Bumper relising agent will also atack the Top coat combined with heat (which brings it out of the Plastic) O and then there is the Sun which will fade Plastic quicker than Metal Panels (as seen on most Imports)

Also just to realy confuse Plastic and steel panels have diffrent static Charges which will alter how the Metalic lies (if its Metalic) then Presure,Gun Distance, Speed, Angle Make and Model of Gun, Type of Paint etc will also alter the colour on Metalics which is why 90% of garages will want to Blend a Door for example if its silver.

There is alot to be said for Base and Clear solid cars.
