Just wondered if you can help me.
have a 93 fd which has a cat, crap air filters and a mooing noise coming from the air pump. i disconected the air pump and the noise stopped.
Does anyone know what this is, and is it BAD!!!!

The "mooing" is coming into the air filters via the 1" bore pipes that connect to the filters.
This noise is not huting anything other than your ears.
The cure is to make a reducer bung to go inside the 1" rubber pipe with a 3/16" hole drilled in it.
Alternativly we could sell you a special short fan belt that takes the air pump out of the system
FD-E001-"SHY Exclusive Product" Fan belt to enable air pump to be removed keeping the standard pulleys

my car is boosting at 5 not 8, is this an actuator ....
If this is on the first Turbo only and you cant get onto the second turbo check the intercooler hoses for splits etc especially the 90degree on the bottom of the intercooler ( assuming you have a stock intercooler)
( you should see boost on your gauge then a slight drop then it boosts again on the second turbo)
it is a stock one yes, it does seem as the 2nd turbo isnt kicking in, Is this a common prob with these then.

thank god somebody asked this question !! i never dared ask just incase somebody said "yep its gonna blow up soon" the noise is so dam annoying its like being followed by a cow lmao

Yes, pay particular attention to the bottom intercooler hose I mentioned as somtimes you need to remove it to see the split,

The air pump will reduce your emissions in some way.. I think it\'s connected to the catalytic converter and in some way helps to keep emissions down.
So I don\'t think you will pass emissions without the air pump. Apart from that, it\'s not needed and many people have removed it.
This solution came with my intake, and it\'s working 95% of the time:

Quick question. I\'m not under my hood or anything (its freezing out there). But which pipe is the noisemaker? Since i plugged the pipe that goes straight into the airpump, but the sound is still there. I wonder if its some other?

correct, the air pump supplies air to the cat (it needs air to complete the oxidation of fuel and/or carbon monoxide and thus reduce emissions.)
IF, you don\'t have a cat, you don\'t need the pump - simple!!

Even with the airpump removed properly along with the ACV and solenoids, you still get a moo sound. I still get it at certain revs on light boost. It\'s the charge relief valve releasing air. I do have twin induction filters though so thats why. The stock airbox does well at silencing all the funny noises and supplying a cold air feed, better than most induction systems IMO

If you put a restrictor bung in the hose circled in red on the pic (an internal diameter of around 5-10mm for the hole through the bung should be cool) the mooing should stop :Thumbs-up. Worked for mine, anyway!

Hmm... I thought it was wrong hose since the mooing didint stop. I assumed that the mooing sound comes from the airpump\'s own hose (next in right). I\'ll just swap the bung into the correct pipe. Thank you very much.
