hi guys,
i have recently cut away some of my main engine earth both from my battery end and the end that is by the rear rotor plugs (attached to the body) as the copper was oxidised - i found that is was simply oxidised further and further down.
this means that is cannot reach the batter very well now anyway.
i just wanted to know whether i can somehow cut it out of the loom of simply inplug it from the points where it connects (i think it connects to the fuse boxes etc right?) and replace it completely or whether i can solder on a an extra length of wire?
is there any fix to this? my car is currently suffering from hesitation and i think this could be a contributing factor as i have a bad earth somewhere as the signs are evident and i have a full earthing kit installed and a voltage stabiliser with no effect?
any help would be appreciated! :Thumbs-up
if you have the extra earthing loom wired in , then it shouldnt matter about the oxidized earth ( in my opinion )
If you are worried about earthing go down to halfords and buy two long earth or power leads that have a bolt hole in each end.
Bolt one from the neg clamp on the battery on to the engine and another from the engine to the body then you can forget about cleaning the stock earths.
And yes this has been know to cause hesitation on 3rd Gen\'s
Hope this helps
cheers guys, just a bit confused, my lights dim etc highlighting the fact that i have an earthing problem and i have had hesitation since i did some work to it.
i forgot that when i was working on it i cut some of the stock earths back to in attempting to cut away the green bits and put on new gold terminals.
my car has a 7 point earthing kit on it and a voltage stabiliser! so i think adding earths may not help but after still experiencing problems i read up on one of the rx7 guide websites that even if you add any amount of earths to the car one stock one must remain (im guessing its because it goes the the fuse boxes etc and it runs through the loom) and this must be in good condition etc and providing a good earth otherwise adding more will not have an effect?
is that correct?
i am sure i have an earthing problem because when i press the brakes the lights dim alot and when anything electrical is used it dims a little - i have checked all the bulbs etc at the back of the car to no avail.
also when doing some work on the car - spark plugs etc i cut away some of the earth at both end of the main loom earth, since then i have had hesitation, - i know this may not be because of the earth but due to the above symptoms i thought it was a factor.

sounds like this is your problem then :D
