Not being able to get them on recovery trucks with the greatest of ease..?!

So we turned the car round on the drive..

and gave it another go..
STILL didn\'t go!

After more pondering and debating what to do...

We decided on this idea...

Which, fortunately worked.. Just! With Millimetres to spare!

All in all, an hour to get it on the recovery truck!
Ahh, The joys of owning a modified car eh?!

I really hate it when people push on my rear lights.
Has any one ever got one cracked this way?
Nice car BTW, what has gone wrong?

that\'d be me pushing on the light.. its the middle bit that moves on mine, not the side ones.
My car has got Bilstein setup, I\'m sure they\'re coilovers, but didn\'t know they were simple to adjust up at down at will..

nice looking car :) ... I remember when I had to get my lowered mk3 golf (80mm) onto a recovery truck, had to rip the whole front splitter off because it simply wouldn\'t get on.... oh and also had the golf completely stuck on one of those square speed humps, couldn\'t move forward or reverse, just constant grinding noises of the exhaust...lol

thanks mate.

Yes, I had a lowered impreza and a turbo converted saxo before this. Both of which had trouble on the transporters!!

Its an ongoing problem most rex owners have i think! I\'m with the AA and you don\'t need to chock the AA flat bed\'s ramps up that much.Just a couple small wedges is usually ok. Atleast you got the car on undamaged.

That\'s why my bumper is held on by 4 quick release fastners - otherwise I\'d never get it on the trailer.
4 twists with screwdriver or similar and the whole front comes off. Takes about 30 seconds. Solid as a rock when mounted.

I had RAC try to get down here, but they couldn\'t with their large tilt \'n\' slide truck so had to go to a private company in the end. Even they had to leave they\'re trailer at other end of our driveway!

Quick release would be a great idea, may look into that!

Hmmm interesting!,

I seem to remember on my last motor that the simple A-frame bar, with extra extensions fitted better than the AAs flat bed trucks.

The RX is far far lower tho, so should I just ask for a tilt and slide if I break down?  It would be nice to know in advance!

Ive got coilovers, but at the side of the road it aint an option!

Chris:)

Yep, just tell them. I told them as soon as I mentioned the car will probably need recovering that for them to send a tilt and slide and not bother sending anything else. Otherwise you could be in for a long wait by waiting up to a couple of hrs for recovery and then for it turning out to be a non tilt slide.

I understand that most places like AA/ RAC do not have many tilt & slide trucks in their fleet so you may have to wait a little longer.

On another note; hope you\'re doing well mate. Long time no see. :)

the annoying thing is that you`ve got to go through it all again to get the car off at the other end!!! :p

RAC have got Porsche/Lotus/Ferrari contract so I was told by one of them, so they have a fair few Tilt n Slide trucks..

They got mine off the other side ok I was told, as they parked on a gradient and went off easier than getting it on.

When mine got \'rescued\' the other day i said i needed a low lowloader and so one of the clever ones turned up - fresh from carrying of those new maserati mc12 things that had had ignition problems. Apparently even with the trick truck that was a pain to load.

I know what you mean mate. Some speedbumps are horrendous! Especially newer ones like in Bluewater car parks! Almost taller than my bonnet!

Lol I\'d just remove my bumper if I had to call out recovery. Height adjustable suspension is even more of a pain to do. The long way round to avoid speed humps is a must.

Lots of people now remove their front noses as almost impossible to get onto recovery trucks without scratching or cracking the front ends :3Confused

What we all need to do is carry in the boot some wooden ramps thus helping to make the car higher for such problems,

ive had to jack my coilovers up to sensible levels. i was having trouble getting onto my driveway via the standard wedgecurb!

it would be mint if we could have the facilty that lambo has which when you press a button an acutator lifts the front end up!

the quick release bumper mod sounds like a good idea for us cheap skates!!

Ah!

Thanks for the tip Freddy mate!  That makes sense to just ask for a tilt and slide from the of.  Suppose you just have to be a bit firm with the call centre staff, lol!

Me and the car are keeping well too matey.  Shes off the road at the mo getting road legal for MOT time!  Hope things are good your end too!:)

Will have to catch up at an event this year!

*thread hijack alert*

you may have seen me, my parents live over wyre, and I was up for a couple of weeks over xmas. will be up at easter for a couple of weeks as well. Then once I go to sea in May (depending on my boats program) I will have to leave it in my fathers hands to give it an occasional spin so you might see it around a bit more often!

*hijack over, return to stations*   :wiggle

Mine required a specialist truck when it was trailered to Carls a few weeks back. Couldn\'t get it on the first truck they bought round, had to wait over an hour while they went to fetch one that would go lower. I\'ve probably got similar clearance, or lack of, to you Alex.

It\'s all down to technique!!  When WGT collected my car (must have been Pip’s brother!), he knew exactly what he was doing.  Got the car loaded within 15 minutes after strategically placing and repositioning bits of wood.

Most of the time the nose was no more than an inch off the ground and I thought it was going to end up in disaster – no such problem though :D

Edit:  I have the same bumper and its set to about the same height.

Heh, the guy that collected my RX for a WGT rebuild had just delivered a GTO down this way he got my car on his tilting trailer with zero trouble. Turned out he was a WGT customer. Shame Pip hadn\'t told him about the gearbox and other bits in a crate that he had to fit in. It all got there and I drove my rebuilt back from WGT after.
Just waiting for v-mounts to be in stock to go there for fitting and mapping!
Runned-in and impatient!
