Title: Apexi Power FC Boost
Post by: JohnnyP on February 07, 2007, 09:54:09 PM
Just a few quick newbie questions. Can the pfc be used as a boost gauge? Does it store peak boost?
What are the main benefits of a boost controller?

Thanks.:D

Yeah it gives you a boost reading - either in a graph or in numbers.  It also stores the peak value which can be reset at the touch of a button.

I only use my commander to monitor.

Thanks Ricco. From what I\'ve read, a boost controller is useful for tuning and if you want a low and high boost setting. Am I right in saying that for reliability I should map to 0.8 bar and 1 bar is the safe max boost on stock twins?

1 bar is absolute max on stock twins, I was running 1 bar on stock twins and blew them in under a month.

You can map the pfc without a boost controller, I think stock boost is somewhere around 0.8 bar anyhow

I would not recommend running more than 0.9 bar on stock twins.  Also, before increasing boost it is essential to get your pfc mapped properly.  You will need a boost controller in order to increase/adjust boost levels.

So with a mapped pfc and boost controller it\'s possible to have a low reliable setting of say 0.6 and a high \'fun\' setting of 0.9

Weighing up if it\'s worth me getting a controller. Do all controllers have a hi lo button? I believe the profec II does.

If it helps; i have been told by a specialist that stock boost is 0.6 bar.:3gears-rh

10 psi would equal 0.65 - 0.7 bar ish

I had a Profec B, the Apexi was mapped to 1 Bar.

I had a daily low setting of 0.8 on the profec, and a high setting of 1 Bar.  The new profec B\'s can be bought for less than £200, you could get an older one (which is what I had previously).  Both of them do have the high and low buttons.

So would I map to 0.9 bar and then set the low setting to whatever I want or does it need to be mapped for low and high? What plugs do you use to perform under different boost or doesn\'t it matter? Apologies for all the questions, getting the car tomorrow, it\'s the excitement!!

BUR9EQP\'s I think are the kiddies

Yes MAP to 0.9, then whatever boost you run up to and including 0.9 the MAP will do the job

I don\'t know the ins and outs of mapping.  Are you going to a rotary tuner or DIY ?

Thanks for all the help, there\'s so much to know! I definitely want a pfc, racing beat/tiger catback and a mapping, not sure about the boost controller yet. Will probably go to rotechniks as they are the closest.

Anyone seen this before:

like the idea of combined turbo timer / boost controller.:chat

I would personally go for something branded, Trust/Greddy, Blitz, HKS, Apexi etc..

this is very cheap retail around £300 I think (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EO1-GREDDY-PROFEC-TURBO-BOOST-CONTROLLER-JDM_W0QQitemZ170079534285QQihZ007QQcategoryZ72205QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170079534285)

I have bought lots from RHD - good prices and they will lower declared value for customs (https://www.rhdjapan.com/home/products/product_detail.php?int_product_id=1330)
