Title: Car Camera, anyone done this???
Post by: chrisJDM on February 07, 2007, 01:26:47 PM
Was thinking of getting a car camera set up, maybe mounted somewhere on the front bumper or on the dash for recording track days and road trips etc.  Anyone done this before??? im sure there are a few of you who have.

Found this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Vechicle-Rear-Back-View-IR-Color-Camera-CAM-PAL_W0QQitemZ140081919658QQihZ004QQcategoryZ66738QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Would this do the job hooked up to a laptop??  i guess would prob be pretty poor quality for that price

cheers :Thumbsup!

try Actioncameras.co.uk for a good selection. Then you can tell if the ebay one is worth the risk...

I got purchased one before xmas, and have found it good, will dig out the links for you.

I bought a MP4 recorder to record the footage as well which uses a SD card to save the video on, then just plug that in the pc and hay presto no converting etc...

Works well just the mic position i am still trying to figure out where is best.

Max has a bullet cam in his front grill opening and it works well. I now have the Sony camcorder with AV in/out so will be setting up a bullet cam in the FD later in the spring.

hotstepper - hehe to see the look on peoples faces when you pull away from them :D

CraigN - You wouldnt happen to know a guy called Scott with a silver impreza running bout 400bhp, he works in scooby garage in Bristol????

I have a old laptop at home that i dont use very much so the oplan was to have a camera in the front bumper with a cable going up into the car and connected to the laptop then have some software on the laptop for recording the footage.  Anyone else tried that route??

this is the place where i bought my sony bullet camera from and iirc it is definitely more reasonable to purchase the kit ie :- camera, battery pack and carry case they were fairly efficient aswell ok and had the camera sometime now so pleased with it but that is probably a testiment to sony products rather than rf concepts anyway here is the link hope this helps

Hi BleakBoy,

I was looking at the DogCam\'s the last time this subject came up.  I dont have a camcorder so would like to go the memory card way.  Do you mind me asking what items you use?

this kit looks the most cost effective for solid state recording http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/hard-disk-video-recorder.htm (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/hard-disk-video-recorder.htm)

Can these dogcams output to the laptop in the same way ti does on the MP4 recorder?

Quality\'s no great on that vid tbh... was it better before you ripped it to WMV?

(not having a go at your camera skillz, honest! ) :)

And was the mic in the engine bay.... sounds pretty loud... its killing the mic LOL...
