Title: AC removal - how far can you go?
Post by: Initial-D on February 07, 2007, 01:05:04 PM
Right I\'ve pulled my air con out but one thing that bugs me is the unit behind the dash! Can this be taken out too? I still want the blower and heater but not the AC section so if this is removed can I bridge the hole between the blower and remaining piping or will everthing be rendered useless?!

Done this on mine, removed the glove box and unscrewed the plastic container with the remaining part. Put it all back together and I still get heat :Giggle IT tidies things up but once you remove the exchange unit, you need to put the plastic container back together and refit it to allow the heater to do its work. I used the vacant gromet in the bulkhead to pass the cable through for my battery in boot install.

So you took the metal element out of the AC container but left the casing in place so the air will still pass through as before... very cunning!

As in attached pic you took out the red highlighted bits, right!:D

Definately took out the larger of two req squares :) Can\'t remember what I did with the other, but if they\'re connected I probably binned it too. It\'s not too difficult to do, just a bit cramped in the footwell, the plastic container will unscrew and if you don\'t replace it (once you\'ve emptied the contents) I think it will affect your heat supply as it bridges the gap. I did it more to tidy things up and to provide a route for my battery cable.
