Title: is it safe ?
Post by: ace-rx7 on February 05, 2007, 07:27:32 PM
well after advice i managed to secure a mapping session with pip @ WGT this sat :cheers
the car is running stock twins ,std ic,std airbox has a pfc and neo and has just completed its run in on rebuild.
but after pluging in a mates commander the knock levels are stupidly high it acts more like a rev counter :2eek  so thats the main reason for going.

i have also got a v-mount and cone filters is it safe to fit them and then drive 200+ miles to get it mapped or would it be best to wait and do a return trip ?

Usually, as long as you stay off boost then it should be ok - wait for someone to confirm this.

The knock sensor is probably picking up other noise.  I had mine up to 149 which would have blown the engine in about 2 second\'s flat!!

No boost and under 4000 revs.:wave

As said ^^ You can fit your mods and drive it to WGT, but stay off boost until its mapped.  Knock might be a knackered knock sensor picking up false readings, stay off boost and it wont be a problem.  Pip will sort it all out for you!

Yep as mentioned fit first but drive up off boost (restraint needed :) )
What time you going might see you there as heading up at 9am myself? :Thumbs-up

Wood under peddle hmmm that is actually quite a good idea I always seem to find an excuse to boot it when I\'m not really supposed to be :spank

Do you want me to bring up those Clear Lights for you to have a look at or have you decided against those now?

See you there either way :Thumbs-up

Have a chat to pip first, he will have the A/R on file from when you had it on the dyno last. As long as you haven\'t changed anything you should be ok. Sounds more like a dodgy senser. They are only a microphone and can be prone picking up stray information.

Mines been on the dyno about 5 times now (lost count) and my sensor plays up, but the car is running fine. I\'ve just grown to ignore it because i know the map is very safe (pip always leaves a good cushion) and the car feels super strong.

Ace mate....... your better option is to go accross to Llandovery  on the A40 then up on the A483 to bilth wells, newtown, welshpool wrexham then across to pip from there. the roads are far better and not as boaring!! also there are road works by chester that you will have to go straight throught the middle of which are a total arse at the moment!!!

Trust me I do this trip every month & there is no better way!! just follow bally with his GPS (it should turn you off the 483 in Beular which cuts out bilth wells!) I can sit comfortably at 60 all the way up (apart from the odd few corners like!!)

Any probs give me a yell, but not at 6am coz I\'ll be sleeping!!

Another welsh FD :o - where abouts are you from?

I come from the Swansea area and usually take the heads of the valleys road up to the M50, then onto the M5 and up.  Just under 3 hours 30 if the traffic is ok.

I had the same problem wtih mine, knock levels going crazy, ive got a knackered knock sensor, i think its a pretty common problem.

As for the wood under the pedal idea, very good but when you dont wanna boot it you always find you get some chav wanting a race or some bmw up ur backside and you just wanna teach them a lesson but shouldnt really but usually do :D

Ace, Ball & myself are in clynderwin, haverfordwest & milford haven (All in Pembrokeshire)

Do you not use the 483 then mate??? takes me 4 hours to get to the wirral from milford (some times less with a little loud peddle!!!) & far more exciting than the m50!!

Do you not go up the 483???? it takes me 4 hours to get to the wirral from milford on that road (sometimes less with a little loud peddle!!) & it\'s alot more interesting than the M50 too!!!

I head up the A465 to abergavenny, then the A40 to the M50.  I go that way because its less hassle, and I know where to stop to get fuel and food :D

I\'ll be going that way again soon enough, and I\'ll have to give it some thought!  Last time I went up that road I think I stopped at Rhyader.

I was down your neck of the woods on saturday.  I was marshalling on a rally starting at Crymych and going through the local aread.  Nice lanes :D

You drove past Ace\'s house to get there!!! He lives in Clynderwin (exscuse the spelling!!)

Best place to stop on the 483 is in newtown, they\'ve got a big morrisons there & there are a few shell garages on the way up to, but you shouldn\'t have to stop for fuel before pips I wouldn\'t of thought!!

Clynderwen - just up from Narberth on the A478?  We certainly did pass there!

When the car is all sorted, I\'ll have to pop up for a mini meet.  There are some lovely lanes up there :D

The car.. she\'s a thirsty little beast!  A pit stop is usually required :p

It wasnt too bad.  It was a novice event, so there were far too many pugs!  Saying that, we were on a very fast hairpin and they all put on a good show!
