Bought some new toys for the car - and just no idea where it fits ??
any ideas ?
and excuse the bad pics - indoors on a mobile never produces the best pics
Stu
so, you have actually got round to opening up the packaging then?
hmmm, did the pics on the CD Rom help at all?
It look fine where it is stu:rollin just need to swp two of the pipes around tho
i disagree , it needs movin slightly to the right lmao :0)
hiya chaps :D
i think it makes the couch look sooo much better !!
yeah i opened it - then put it all back and put it in the attic ( its the FC shrine for parts - FMIC , Coilovers , Exhausts , Strut Braces , Vented Headlight cover etc.. )
i think the CD pics will help once i start to fit it - i have no idea where anything goes - so it will be a challenge to say the least
my main concern is that i still have the air flow meter - god knows if it will fit around it ??
just need to sit with a pin and bend some of the fins straight - that will be one hell of a job though
Stu
That looks like the intercooler John (88-GT) uses, mounted horizontally at the front of the engine bay and up high - keeps the intake pipes short !
Did you get a throttle elbow with it as well, or are you modding the old one ?
And finally - when you fitting it ?:cool
I think John\'s is a bit bigger that\'s my old one (came off an Evo VI) Everything that Stu needs to fit it is there as I took it piece for piece off mine.
it mounts on the stock elbow - OK it adds another bend - but like mark said - it came off a FC so should fit nice :D
i did look into the greddy elbow - it just adds more money :(
Stu
Corr nice couch mister.....its one of dem wiked turbo ones init....do a burnout.....bet its well fast init......lol
Stu are you feeling well spending money?
Kevin
a lot of bends there stu, you can loose up to 1 psi per bend in pressure drop. Is there no way to get a more direct route?
so based on there being 8 bends - will i actually see any boost ???
and Kev - it was a moment of madness and parted with cash - i felt ill afterwards !! LOL
a more direct route - hummmm not sure to be honest - i reckon that you would have 4 bends on both sides regardless of how you did it
1 - out of the turbo
2 - along the pipe
3 - down to the IC
4 - into the IC
if there were more people running FMIC\'s in FC\'s then i would have a better idea - but there (a) isnt many people doing it (b)they havent told anyone that they are !
in a ideal world you would come out of the turbo into the IC and then out the IC into the throttle body - but i dont think there is the space on the car to do that - unless you can run the pipes at 45 degrees thru the side of the engine bay ?
Stu
I have to say, the number of bends was down to the engineering prowess of Matt! ;)
the way i look at it - its got to be better than the TMIC
got the next project already brewing in the back of my mind - gonna stick the Apexi ECU on the car :D :D - just laying the ground work now
Apexi? is this a new departure? I didn\'t know you had an Apexi ECU????
He said laying plans - so he might only have is eye on one !
This is going to get interesting, as we would then have a good spread of ECU\'s running on FC\'s represented in the club:
Apexi PowerFC,
Microtech
Jap ROM versions
ECU + Piggyback
Good luck hunting one out that\'s cheaper than £700 I\'ve seen
I think the pressure drop on the bends is more to do with what angle, how many and how tight the bends are - I would be more worried about the 2 metres of 3" pipe you need to fill with air now, on a stock turbo that will take some time !
your all putting a dampner on my new FMIC :(
i know what you mean about putting that amount of air into the system - does that mean it will be a bit laggy ???
and the APexi - been reading on the US forum - that there is a harness adaptor available and that you dont need much else to make it run ( and you can use the FD one ! )
you still use the commander so get to see real temps , injector duty etc..
its still pie in the sky - but keeping my options open :D
microtech...microtech...microtech...microtech :)
hell, or go for Haltech instead!

i paid £400 for mine, its an FD one, you dont need an FC specific one, also, fd one means you can lose the AFM
The main problem with a front mount on the FC is the power steering is un the way so you end up going under it and up behind it.
You should really get the greddy elbow thingy for the fc as the stock elbow not only points nackwards but is only 2 inches diameter.
The less pipe work the better. Citroen saxo power steering pump will fit straight in an FC and the stock lines from saxo fit the fc rack. You then have loads of room to run pipes a more direct route.
Nice looking engine Ant.:Thumbsup!
[boy am i sad " nice looking engine"]:3Confused
is that how the one you were selling would look?
only difference is all the silicone is blue, new turbo (gt35/40) and i have the viscous fan back on as its much better than an electric one!
im still interested in the power steering swap - i take it the saxo one is electric and just runs on 12v rather than using a belt drive
i must admit - that would free up loads of space on that side of the engine :D ( as i dont have air con either )
thats a nice clean set up you have there - very tasty
and my pipe work will go over the power steering pump ... im liking the elbow though - i have read somewhere that you can use the EGI elbow - but no idea where i have read it ???
Stu
the saxo pump is electric, just has 3 wires, and 2 fluid lines. So simple. I put mine under the front wing on the passenger side.
oohhhh
so 2 wires - im assume earth , 12v and something else
do the FC lines just fit into the pump - or do you put the saxo lines into the rack ??
runs off to see how much they are now
do i need to find anything specific ( certain years ) ?
does it remove the silly speed steer thing ?
Stu
iirc the FC line (there is only one high pressure line) fitted the Saxo pump. And it reached. The other is low pressure return and just jubilee clips on.
You lose the speed control but you dont notice it as its nice and firm all the time.
3 wires 12v main power, earth, ignition switch +. If you get one, ask for the little loom as it come with the relay included.
just been looking on ebay
do you have a pic of yours - they seem to change between years
this is a S reg one
this is a 52 plate one
Going to hijack a little sorry Stu. Tony any idea how the variable speed control is wired on these. I\'m going to have a number of spare outputs with the new ECU that are mappable for speed revs etc. Just playing about with ideas at the moment but it could well be something else will be coming off the car now.
Kevin
Kev - feel free matey
i dont think i have EVER started a thread that stayed on track :D
i must admit i love the idea of loosing the belt driven power steering
i have no idea where Tony gets these ideas to be honest - but im liking them .. A LOT :D
Stu
Electric pump as always been an option i\'ve looked at but i may now be able to keep the variable assistance now with the new set up.
Kevin
i would be happy to get shut of the variable assistance to be honest - never been a big fan of it to be honest
i hate the transition between loose and tight
Stu
I could keep it fully assisted say sub 30mph though Stu then loose it gradually above that above that depending how its controlled Stu. Then its just a case of tweeking the map until it felt right.
Kevin
yeah not a bad idea
the concept is nice ( for parking etc.. ) - but they should have done it so that it turned on and off around 15 mph - im sure mine is about 40 mph - and its scary on corners !! :D
the only difference is the earlier one has a remote resovoir which is actually a bit easier to fit but other than that no difference.
I\'m not entirely sure but there is some kind pressure regulator on the stock PAS pump, iirc there is only 1 or 2 wires going to it, there is also a second smaller high pressure line on the rack which you block off if you fit the saxo pump. This may be something to do with the speed sensitive bit or it might just be an electronically controlled pressure reg, it would be fairly easy to check by putting a pressure gauge on it and adjusting the voltage going to reg, if you fancied playing around with it.
you think your steering is scary, i have just fitted a 2 way diff and drove it for the first time today, that is scary!
so either one will do - thats pretty cool
will see what prices people come back with
so how long did it take to fit yours ???
and you should have done a write up matey - would stop me asking you 10,000 questions about it !! LOL
Stu
mine is always scary - its like a boat in the dry , the wet is just madness and based on that i only drive it once a month - i never get used to it
im hoping the coil overs will sort some of the steering out ( more things to fit !! )
Interesting thread guys :)
Stu - Stop being a wuss and take it out in the Ice/Snow/Rain/Sleet/Oil/Diesel :yes
last time i was out in the wet - it stepped out .. full boost in 2nd doing just short of 60 mph
time before that i ended up facing the wrong way on a major round-a-bout in chorley - although that was ammusing !! :D
Nothing wrong with the back end stepped out Stu as you know mine does it in the dry.........................don\'t be a wuss
Kevin
Like I said, wuss :D
Until its stepped out on a dual carriageway, down hill left hander on the 3rd-4th shift, you have not had a proper brown trousers trip! :yes
OK - your all loonies !!
and kev - yeah i know all about that !!
only time i really paniced when i was sideways on the dual carriage way and i was about 4 inch off my mates drivers door with the front bumper !! :D
Get it right Stu not loonies just mildly insane.
Kevin
i like you way of thinking kev !!
and mildly .. hummmm i would put you into a slightly higher category than that buddy !!!

I\'m thinking this might be the power steering pressure switch - it feeds back to the ECU and eventually controls the Air Supply Valve to feed more air in when the car is on low revs or idle to prevent stalling.

Stu - decent tyres mate - that\'s what you need !:D :D :D :eek
got me some Avon ZZ1\'s ( or 3\'s ) on the spare set of wheels i have , just not had chance to change them
the plan is
1 - take the wheels off the cab
2 - take the wheels off the coupe
3 - put the cab wheels on the coupe
4 - put the 15\'s ebay wheels onto the cab
5 - put the coupe wheels in the garage with the spare set of split rims i have in there
can never have too many wheels can you :D
Stu
What about the electric power steering unit from a corsa? dont they get rid of the hydraulics al together?
also Stu next time you get the intercooler down from the atic to look at could you tell me how thick it is? Just wondering if an evo intercooler would fit in the front of the moggy?
cheers, oh and ..........get all those good things onto one of your cars or sell it all really cheaply to me!
cheers, michael.
its about 2.5 - 3 inch think
if you want exact measurements then i can get them for you :D
sell them cheap - hummmmmm could have done you a swap for a nice ECU :D
eventually i will fit what i have - just not sure if that will be this year or next !! LOL
cheers for that! Just think about how much fun you have with your car now and how much more fun you could have if you did get these things on!!!
yeah i know what you mean
its just getting around to fitting stuff - i dont have the space to be honest
Find amate with a garage or carport. Get some other mates together, get some beer together and have a working bee!!!!!!
Dont know if it\'s any help to you but this is a simple look at the steering thingymebob (im interested in the mod too :chat )
you seem to be missing an engine there matey !
Quote from: grinderyou seem to be missing an engine there matey !
At least his is oh so clean, not like ours :D
lol :chat
I tell you - it\'s coming to something, you leave a car in one spot for 5mins and someone nabs the engine! :2eek :Giggle
LOL:D
it is nice and clean though :D
bet you cant keep it like that !
Thats a bet I am deffinately NOT going to take! :Giggle
if you keep ontop of it - i bet its not tooo bad to keep clean to be honest
mine has 17 yrs of grime to get off :(
Quote from: grinderif you keep ontop of it - i bet its not tooo bad to keep clean to be honest

Ahhh I feel your pain 17 years for me too :evillaugh just couldn\'t believe how much muck there was, twas sooo thick my hands would sink into it. :Giggle
Anyway sorry Stu, I believe we where on about your rack! :rollin
rack....fmic.....
im sure we discuss anything on my thread :D
but yeah the rack - still not sure about the saxo pump - they are about £45 off ebay if you can find one .. just not sure about that route or not
i need to start on the FMIC and work from there.. soo many toys .. so little time :(
Well I dont know what the steering feels like on a stock FC cause I have never driven one! :spank but as a means to make less clutter and weight I would like to do the convirsion.
As for the bends in the IC pipes I read somewhere that you loose 25% of the flow for every bend (thats not to say after 4 bends you loose all flow!)
If the pressure sensor is after all the IC bends then wont the turbo be made to compensate for the pressure drop?
Just thinking outloud so dont laugh! :chat
errrr no idea matey :D
its all to do with efficiency, the easy it is for the turbo to make the boost the better.
I am thinking of starting a poll to see whether on not the club should ban grinder from the forum until he finally gets around to fitting up some of his cool parts?? what do people reckon? He has the best part of a kick ar$e fc in his atic and this type of thread just goes to show he should be sending more time freezing his nads off fitting the fmic instead of gloating?????
no seriously, I really am thinking that this would be for his own good. I even read in another thread that he was thinking about getting a subaru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fit or Ban? there is a nice ring to it if you ask me :)
now now matey :D
i hate seeing the car off the road to be honest ( which is why nothing gets fitted ! ) - its the meet on monday night - so i might see what i can do in the next 4 week block from that
i would really like to get the exhaust and suspension fitted - the FMIC - it just seems a rather large task if you ask me
if i had more space then i would be happy to work more on the car - its just annoying that i can only work on one side of it - then have to turn it around - doesnt make life easy at all :(
the scooby - humm bit of a sore point that - her indoors would prefer me to have that than the 3 cars i already have - now thats scary :D
Maybe we should do one of those makeover shows, when Stu is away one weekend we can all go overthere and completely kit out his car.....
Stu, come out in my car for a drive and you will see that its all worth while!
Tight git would never pay for the fuel to get down to you Tony:D :D :D
Kevin
Quote from: kev-yorksTight git would never pay for the fuel to get down to you Tony:D :D :D
Kevin
i think your right there Kev :D
to be honest i dont think the FMIC will make much of a difference to the car - its still on the stock turbo - i was just fitting it to keep the temps down !
id rather get the handling sorted first - no point going fast if it wont go where you want it to :D
i think the plan is
1 - suspension fitted and rear strut brace
2 - exhaust fitted
3 - wheels and tyres
not sure in what order but i think these need doing before the FMIC goes on
not sure what else i have lying around for it to be honest .. oh yeah the SAFCII needs wiring in aswell ... thats another job :(
FIT OR BAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!!!!! You could have one hell of a car Stu. I do appreciate your difficulty with a lack of space etc.
im working on the fitting :D
things should move forward in the next few weeks - just trying to get my ducks in a row and then see what i can come up with
its really not the weather for working on cars ... i need to borrow a large garage from some one :D
