Title: 12A - no timing marks on pulley
Post by: Martiny on February 04, 2007, 10:46:39 AM
Hi guys

I have a 12A pulley that looks like it takes 3 belts. The thing is , I cant see any timing marks on the pulley. (unless i am being thick - and it HAS happened before!).

I think the distributor is electronic, ( I am guessing its from 1984 )  so in theory I should only have to set the timing once. I will have to mark the pulley myself I suppose.

As a starting point, how do I find  TDC?  I have the pulley off and the engine out of the car, and the distributor is out.

there should be some marks on the edge closest to the engine. if not you may have to make your own using the keyway as a reference (is the 12 front pulley a one piece jobbie ... no seperate hub with bolts)

Thanks Mike

Its a seperate one with bolts.

I guess what I should do is remove the plugs and rotate until No1 Rotor shows closest in plug-holes.

Then I have an idea where tdc is, and I can look closely at the pulley there.

Ah ah!
Thanks Mike, I was looking mostly on the outer most pulley. Checked the inner-most pulley and I found them . Will paint them white now !
