Whilst stripping off the sound deadening from the centre tunnel I noticed that the transmission mount had been pulled away from the chassis!! Not sure if this occurs on many peoples FDs when they up the power but thought it\'d be good to point out as you\'d never know unless you looked. It\'s not entirely off but the spot weld won\'t hold much longer!! It must be twisting on launches, so lots of bracing will be added!
There are alot of posts re this issue on the US V8 fd forums, probably due to the extra torque of the V8\'s. Have a look at this pic......
A recommendation is to either seam weld around the edge of the mount or plate behind it, or both!
Yep I\'m having it seam welded back and then having a brace made up to stop it happening again!
Its quite worrying how thin the metal aroound the transmission tunnel atually is! You can flex it just by pushing on it!!!
i didnt think the FD gearbox was mounted to the body, just the engine one end and the power plant the other, TII\'s have a gearbox mount.
FD gearboxes are not mounted to the body, that mount is for 1 of the underbody braces.
i\'m glad my memory isnt failing me!

Any idea where the stress would be coming from for it to fail on a fd? (as I havn\'t become intimate with the underside of mine as yet)
the FD chassis is sooo weak and flimsey that Mazda put braces across the gearbox tunnell to healp keep the chassis rigid. With power the chassis tries to flex and breaks the mounts. Thats what i think anyway, i may be wrong
Methinks the twist from extra power too. It\'ll be put right! Just thought I\'d post it incase it may occur on others FDs.
