Title: Gas struts for bonnet
Post by: dturpin on February 03, 2007, 11:07:15 AM
Hi everyone, I have just got a carbon fibre bonnet for my FD, and was wondering if anyone has used gas struts for bonnet lifts?  If so what sort of struts did you use and where they easy to fit?

Clive at Shy (see top banner) does the Tien ones just check that suitable for CF bonnets as some people said could crack it!
Also if you do a search for "Hood Dampers" you may find info on other options.

Will get in contact with Clive have used him for a lot of stuff for my car he is very good.
I am also after some windscreen jets that can be attached to the windscreen wipers as I don\'t really want to put the squirters in the cf bonnet, having trouble finding a set though.

how much you pay tony and did they fit?

i have two carbon fibre ones and a cf hood but they are too stiff and to close it you need two people on either side but the biggest problem is that once on you cannot close the bonnet :(

have you got any pics tony/dom?

Dturpin go scrap yard and and find an old 405 wiper gets they fix onto the wiper arms, basicaly take the jets and water pipe attached to it along with the pipe splitter and attach to your car.

Rob hopefully he has sorted them now seeing as he has had a year to do it ! :Laugh :Thumbs-up

On the Bonnet front (the reason thread resurected I guess) will it not close because too stiff or because not aligned correctly.
When I fitted mine I had this problem first but mounted the end of the strut on the bonnet further back and it closed like a dream just didn\'t open as far that\'s all and I was happy with that:Thumbs-up
Cheers
