I have recently been spending money on uprating my intercooler and fuel system etc and there are a few other mods i have looked at and am not sure wether it is worth getting and dont really know what benefit you get from them.
1. Light Weight Pulleys
2. Performance Spark Plugs
3. Thicker Plug Leads
I have seen lots of diferent ones for the FD and am not sure about them, Are these mods worth doing? whats the best ones to go for?
Cheers
heres some pulleys i found, anyone bought any of ebay before? any good??

i have a set of dragon pulleys fitted by ross very good bout £100 aprox
did they make much difference??? what was the benefit of having them??
Pulleys are realy just there to make the Waterpump pulley bigger so when you get rid of the Air pump as part of a Decat, they just give the belt more contact (so it doesn\'t slip)
The Plug leads, Well they will only make a diffrence if yours are Shot, i personaly would not put "Thicker" ones on as i have a set of 10mm leads and they don\'t fit properly.
Plugs, well if you use NGK\'s you can put a Grade hotter plug in if you do alot of Track days etc or have a mildly Tuned car but there is side effects hotter plugs Foul easyer and last less time if you use it every day (low speed etc)
What sort of Spec is your car? do you have a PFC and all that sort of stuff? you may find more benifit Getting it Serviced and set up by a Tuner (bit more Boost)
spec list:
Apexi Power Fc and Commander
GReddy Air Intake Kit
GReddy FMIC
Nippondenso Fuel Pump
1600 cc Secondary Injectors with competition Fuel Rail and regulator etc
Performance Downpipe
Silenced De-Cat
Apexi Back Box
Bailey Dump Valve
GReddy Profec B Boost Controller
Removed Air Pump and Air Con
This is a list of what wil be done on the car after about a month of so, i have some of the parts and still waiting for some of the others from usa.
Are you still on stock boost?
currently mapped to 0.85 bar but might put it up a little once the FMIC and Injectors are fitted, will see what the guy who maps my car recommends
I supose it depends on the Condition of your Turbo\'s, you can run 1 bar but its on the Limit of the Stockers.
ive got quite high mileage aswell with no rebuild so dont wanna push it too much

Unless you are a nutter like the Hog and ran his at 1.4 bar and they kept going.:2eek
1.4!!!! Wow i had an fd set up to 1 bar and it took 4 months for them to go pop.
How long did yours last? I guess it depends on Condition and how you look after them i supose but i don\'t know many Turbo\'s that don\'t have 360 bearings to go much over 1 bar without seeing seal blow by.
Mine have run at 1bar since it was built with the only problem being fuel cut at 5300rpm due to stock injectors...that was until the front plate broke anyway...:(
If you are not sure when last the leads were changed then I would change leads. Thereafter plugs - iridiums.
My 2p.
:)

Err, I think you meant to say you would fit a COLDER plug for track days, and a colder plug would foul easier.
The waterpump pulley being bigger means that at the coolant does not start cavitating until higher RPM than the stock pulley..
Cavitating means that basically, instead on the pump moving the coolant around the engine,it just stay\'s still and get\'s air pockets in it because the speed of the pump is too high for it to work properly.
The light weight of the pulleys does not make much difference.
As for plug leads,I would reccomend to keep stock Mazda ones, they are very good.
And for plugs the BUR9EQP\'s are good for most cars except the really high HP ones.
Spend your money only on what is really needed.

Carl
Thanks Carl, i think that has summed it up pretty well, there are a few other bits and pieces ive been thinking of getting which i will probably get instead, try and make everything a bit more solid, gona look at getting a gerabox brace, diff brace, and probably some solid engine mounts, might also have a look at replacing the suspension bushes with some better items, the engine mounts and suspension bushes are currently stock on a J Plate FD so are bound to be a bit worn, and also the 2nd to third gear change is getting a bit dodgy. I think for the mo ive done as much as i want with the engine, just wana get it all set up properly, and improve handling and a few other bits and pieces.

I did one set of twins on the strip, they were the original ones, they lasted two years of my abuse. The next set were still going strong after 6 months when I changed to a single set up.
