Title: Performance Brakes
Post by: n4bes on January 29, 2007, 05:44:11 PM
Hi Guys,

Looking for some help.........:3Confused

I have a 1992 K Plate Type R FD and I\'m trying to source new brakes........

Everything I come accross is for a 1993 on-wards, so will it fit my car.?
(Discs,Pads and Hoses) :2Confused

I was asked if the front pads have wear indicators on them....?????.... Any ideas...???? :xconfused

Which are the best type to go for.??...Black Diamond, Tarox etc.

My car is 60+ miles away, therefore checking is pretty difficult.

Any help would be fantastic, any one got performance discs front or rear please let me know.

Thanks

That\'s wot I thought, trying to be sure as the company struggle with returning stuff. They are a Scooby specialist you see. They cannot return to their own stock as nobody up here has an FD.

Try looking for AP Racing,Brembo or KAD brakes. Most of them are big 6 pot calipers with 350+ discs so you want to check you can fit your wheels over them for starters. Expensive but a worthy conversion!!

Cheers.......

The shop is owned by a couple of very good friends, I cannot give them much business because they don\'t know the FD like they know scoobies, therefore wish to help them when I can. May cost me a few pounds more but they are mates.

Just need to be sure, Any ideas on the wear indicators....????

your pads should have wear indicators mate i think all FD\'s do! I\'ve got mintex extreme pads on my FD and they are really good! The most noticable performance gain i\'ve ever had from pads alone! go for them mate they are quite cheap too!

Think you\'ve sold me on them pal...........I noticed the Mintex book has the same pad for the FD with and without wear indicators.....I\'m not sure on this at all.

Are you running standard dics on yours....???, Wot type of Fd is yours and any idea on the product code of your pads...???

i\'ll try n find out the part no for mine mate it\'s a 94 but will be the same part no as yours! The wear indicators are just metal plates on the back of your standard pads they rattle against the discs when the pads are low! you can just refit them onto the back of your new pads!
I replaced the discs with new oe items when i changed the pads!

That would be fabbie...........

Does that mean that all pads come without the indicators and you attach the old ones from you car....????.......  As hell.

Thinking about drilled and grooved front and standard at the back..

The part no for my front pads is MDB1935X these are listed as rx7 2.6 turbo coupe 1992-1996 They do matching discs aswell part no MDC1227X not sure what these are like but if the pads are anything to go by they should be good!
Wear indicators are simple to refit mate! or you could junk them all together i suppose!

Not aware of any wear indicators on the pads of any RX7 myself! recently got a set of the Mintex extreme pads from Clive at Shyauto.com. not fitted yet but apparently excellent stopping power,
Bob

Certainly is confusing, some have an some don\'t............

I know alot of Scooby boys running good power that swear by them....we will have to wait and see........certainly Lum90 rates them highly.
