Title: She wont start....HELP!?
Post by: SCOOMER on January 28, 2007, 04:01:03 PM
So, the cars been off the road since march 06, ive been starting the car every so often (every 3 weeks). Its been starting fine since i took the car off the road no probs. Anyway i started the car last week and it ran ruff and struggling to hold a decent idle, then cut out after around 2-3mins.

Im thinking the petrol has gone off but not sure. Tryed pulling the EGI fuse and turning it over incase i flooded it alittle just to try and get rid of the eccess fuel, then replaced and tryed to start it again. It nearly fired up until it banged a few times and this is all it would do until the battery died on me.

Im running a GT35r turbo with bosch ful pump, 1600cc secondary injector ETC, ETC....

IF the fuel has lost its octane value would it be in my interest to add a octane booster to the fuel already in the tank and try to de-flood or would this not be advisable? Id rather not drain the tank of fuel, flush the tank and replacing the fuel filter. But if i have to so be it.

As a start I\'d certainly drain the tank and put some fresh jungle juice in there, just remove the drain plug from the underside of the tank, you can do it without lifting the car. The place to start with any sort of starting problems, first make sure you\'ve got fuel and then a good spark. Is your fuel pump running when you turn on the ignition?

Fuel pump is running, i can hear it when i turn the ignition on. Good fuel pressure showing on my gauge as well.

I have a rear defuser so if i end up draining the tank ill have remove that, DAMN IT!:Grrr

Gutted. Oh well, maybe it\'ll be ok then, just shove a load of fresh petrol in on top and some octane booster for good measure. Then just don\'t give her too much welly until you\'ve used it all and have got a fresh tank. If you\'ve been starting her up and letting it idle without driving her then chances are the plugs\'ll be pretty fouled up. I know mine used to get pretty sh*tty from just starting her up from time to time. Pop them out and give them a good wire-brush, use a finer bristled brush if you can.

ok, just pulled the plugs and there soaking. Pretty fouled up as well, only done less that 500 miles. (im running 10\'s and 11\'s)

Ive got the car on axle stands and 2 jacks for alittle protection, im wondering if its ok to turn the engine over with the key while on the stands????

Its not the best idea but its a pain in the ass messing on as the car is so low its a bloody mission getting them the stands off and on.

Oh and ive got no means of getting say 2mls of oil through the plug holes so would it be possible to squirt some down the nipple in the UIM. Somone told me i could spray WD40 down it, would this do?

Sounds to me like the plugs bud.. had the same thing with mine when she arrived a few weeks bck, 10`s and 11`s  are quite cold plugs so they`ll fowl up real quick, give them a good clean, would have though starting her on stands would be ok as long as there solid, iv done it before with my last car lol.. touch wood nothing happened ..:P

Yep your running hot plugs, from past experiance they tend to foul easyer and do this every so often.

I had these plugs in my Turbo 2 and i was told to get a MSD or Twin power ign booster (I had a MSD, it did help alot and got a bit better MPG too;))

I sugest you take all the plugs out and the EGI turn it over for 30 seconds or so until the White Vapor stops coming out the Plug holes, Now leave the plugs out and Charge the battery up over night, Next day Fit some Fresh plugs and ty it again.

If this fails Tow it round the block and let the engine turn over in second with the Ign on for a 100yards or so, i\'ve never not had a Motor start that way (you get a realy good spark if the Battery isn\'t turning the Starter at the same time)

SHES ALIVE!!!!!!:Thumbsup!

squirted about 2mls of engine oil in the plug holes, turned it over by hand. Cleaned the plugs and heated them with a blow torch, banged them in and it fired up after about 2 seconds.

Ran ruff as a bears ass for a few mins, kicking out smoke. Soon cleared up tho.

Thanks for all ya help guys.
