As you might know i managed to de flood my engine today after it sitting for about 3 months. I replaced leads and plugs then let it run about 1 hour ticking over steady at about 750 - 800 sound beautiful. Problem is :- My mate just turned up and took her for a spin and!!!! drove around the corner and the car cut out, restarted ok and drove off got onto open road & pulled away in 1st the car wheel spun but didnot boost up then he changed into 2nd speed increased but still no boost got upto 4.5 -5K changed gear turbo still not boosting and no dump valve noise. When under load in 2nd gear a red light came on the dash left hand warning lights the one closest to the rev counter (He Thinks). Friend is a mechanic and he said it sounded like it pinked. When he came back i sat in car to reverse on drive when i bliped the throtle she back fired and burning embers came from exhaust.

possibly bloked cat, if you are on stock ecu the flashing light is for the cat, if on Apexi the light is for knock?
IIRC you have a PFC don\'t you?
The CAT light is used buy the PFC as a warning light so as long as you have the comander I would firstly look at the sensors to see if any of them are not functioning correctley.
With the boost issues have you checked all of your pipes including you IC pipes (mine split and this happened) Just a couple of things for you to look into for now and see how you get on from there.
Sounds to me like this car wants to be driven more often and if you are unable to do that at the moment I would lend it to me for a bit and I\'ll keep everything running :D

I got home from work tonight went out to the car lifted the bonnet and the IC pipe had come off the Elbow, Replaced clips tightened them and all seems to be happy in the world again, Thanks for the offer of lending the car to you so you can keep everything running BUT NAHHHHHHH.

I would still have a look at the sensors though at some point at you wouldn\'t want to miss something else.

Glad alls well with your car but im sorry i just dont trust anyone else to drive mine lol, my m8s all have heavy feet, plus they aint got anything close to a rex, most powerfuls a gts skyline :P Poop!! lol, he`s crashed it 4 times now :D

I have learnt from my mistake no one is going to drive it but me. I have just gone to fill the tank up and she is running so nice (plenty of sideways action). Still backfiring any idea on why it is doing this? or does it just need a dam good blast down the motorway.

well you said its been sitting for 3 months bud? new fuel and a drive will do it the world of good, but id ease into it, dont hammer it straight of, give her a gradual increase m8,.. but first id replace the plugs, or give your old ones a good clean.. should be fine lol.. mine backfires 4 a past time :D, your car may be running a bit rich like mine, nothing to worry about, just a bit higher fuel consumption.. the excess fuels just burning off in the exhaust.

The plugs and leads i fitted new yesterday, I think you are right needs a good run not mental but a long run to clean her out. Yes i am sure she is running rich as the exhaust fumes smell like petrol (Not smoky though). On the subject of the exhaust it is an aftermarket one i think the tail pipe definatly is and when i looked under her yesterday from the back box to as far as i could see was a straight through 2.5 - 3" pipe. I could not see a cat but until i got the car it was running on a stock ECU and so i have heared if you remove a cat from a ReX it needs remaping (Still have not got it remaped). Could this be a reason it is running rich, the previous owner adjusted to compinsate for removing cat?

So im a bad m8 because i wont let them drive my rex? well i let them drive all my other cars in the past, and to be honest why you think thats classed as being a good m8 is beyond me, how would yor m8 feel if he/she wrecked your 10k car??
Anywho..
Gasejo, really not a good thing to run a decat without a remap or power fc bud, think it causes boost spikes because theres to much air flowing through causing the ecu to cut down on the fuel so she`ll run lean? pretty sure this is what haps lol..
Sounds to me like the previous owner has done a bit of DIY mapping and got it running extra rich to compensate for the decat.
Not brilliant to be honest as you don\'t know what else has been changed.
This could also explain the backfires as excess fuel is burning in the exhaust. I assume backfires when you ease off the throttle?
Once registered etc I would pop along to your nearest specialist and get it mapped probably best 300 you will spend and a heck of a lot cheaper that a rebuild!

I was planning to take her to Re Worx as soon as i can get her booked in. I am not 100% sure about not having a cat as there is not much clearence under the car only about 3" off the floor. On mapping would it be advisable to fit extras before or have the major one done then as i add mods have upgraded maps done.

There lies the Question mate, Have you got all the bits you want to fit. If you have then have them fitted and then map. If RE:WORX are not going to fit them prior to the mapping then time is so they are all fitted. DON\'T use the car, then drive it down on the mapping date and DON\'T use any boost. That way you will not cause any damage and the best bit is after the mapping you can open her up and feel the POWER.
It is a more expensive way to map, add bits then map again, etc etc but you do get to see what effect the new mods have given you. I have spent 4 years getting to where I am now, by doing it slowly and enjoying the mods I have done and under advice then do the next set of mods to attain a certain goal.
It\'s all up to your wallet and if you can wait to do it in stages.
There is so much knowledge on this site & FDUK that you can ask What I want is this--How do I get there.
I set myself a goal of the British Record for Stock Twins BHP and did it. But in doing it I over specked on all parts knowing that I would one day go single. Therefore I only bought an item once. If that makes sense. HTH.

I have plans and time for my car it is a new hobby for me i dont need the car for transport so i want to take my time and get it nice. Firstly i need a remap the sooner the better so most of the mods are not going to be on the car. Eventually i want to purchase a BNR stage 3 twin turbo unit & run to about 300 - 350 ATRW ( If possible on twins?) but most of all i want a ReX that as i drive along the road people stop point and look. OH YES and when i put my foot down i want WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
