Okay guys I may need to change my clutch shortly. I am rebuilding my engine at the mo and aim for 350-400 rwhp. What clutch would suit for road / track use? Remember I do not plan to exceed 400rwhp.
Can stock handle this, or is it a little high....
You will rip a stock clutch to bits.
I have the EXtreme Clutch from RE:WORX and it has taken hell on the Strip and the Track and it\'s still performing without a fault. Had it now for two years and as you can see from my sig, I don\'t spare the Horses.:cheers
Which Extreme clutch do you use?
Use the link above for the RE:WORX web site and give them a ring after looking at the product. Just tell them you are after the same one as His Royal Hoggness.:King

It is always worth looking carefully at clutches, some of these single plate jobbies tend to be a bit snatchy and make street driving a bit of a lottery [read kangaroo:eek: ] might be worth getting some feedback from guys with uprated clutches.
Some of the twin plates are sweet although you pay a bit more for them
Definately not going to do any drag racing! Need the clutch to be driveable on a day to day basis.
I have to admit I am not clear about the realtive merits of a single plate clutch over a twin plate clutch, can anyone enlighten me? Why is one used rather than another?
Hi Nick,
The single plate clutch I described above will give only slightly more pedal pressure and will drive like a standard cluch using the standard flywheel which is ideal for every day driven road cars.
The Idea of a twin plate clutch as opposed to a single plate is purely to give more surface area for the clutch to grip with to cope with lots more power.
( very few FD\'s even need a twin plate BTW)
Almost all the clutches that are either twin or single "Race" clutches will jerk away if sufficient revs are not used, whilst this is partially due to the friction surfaces used the grabbing or jerking that can result in the car stalling but is actually mainly due to the very light flywheels that come as an integral unit with these "race" clutches.
The reason for the grabbing or jerking due to the light flywheel is due to the low inertia weight of these flywheels and this is why you need extra revs to pull away.
For more info on flywheel weights and why all standard road cars have very heavy flywheels do a search here on MRC as there was a long thread recently on this very subject.
Hope this helps
Your best bet would be to go with the clutch that Clive is offering from Shy Auto.
It has a good balance between driveabilty and also being able to take the power level you are going for.
Regards
Carl
Oh,and twin plates are very expensive in comparison, and also are only really needed for almost out and out race type engines that are making alot more power than you are going for.

Carl
Carl / Clive,
Are you in cahoots! Good explanation for the layman like myself. Sounds like just the job. Let me consult with financial controller (as rebuild costs are already spiralling out of control!).

Hi Nick,
Well, I am happy to promote those who are selling the right product for you!
Not that there is any financial incentive for me to do so though!
Just trying to give some good advice.;) :chat :rollin
