Title: Insuring RX7 for 21 year old
Post by: Bobfish on January 17, 2007, 02:49:14 PM
Anyone have any suggestions?

92 rx7 FD
standard turbos
uprated rad, intercooler
PFC and commander
18 inch wheels
uprated brakes
decat, uprated exhaust

21 years old, 4 years NCB - no accidents, 1 SP50 speeding conviction.

What you think? best ive had so far is £2095 with an £1100 excess!  nobody seems to understand what im trying to tell them on the quote (its an RX what? is it chipped? No, its got an entire aftermarket ECU, ok so its not chipped? no, but its not got the standard ECU either, ok so its chipped then?)

GIVE ME STRENGTH LOL

any tips people?

LOL just had a converstaion with insurance company about a quote:

"its an RX7"

"an RX what?"

modifications...

"is it chipped?"

"no, but itll have an entire aftermarket ECU"

"ok, so its not chipped?"

"no it isnt,  its got a totally different ECU"

"ok, so its got a superchip then?"

"no, ok ill take the ECU off it then"

"its got 18 inch alloys too"

"how much are they worth?"

"£2200"

"ok, we can insure those but we only replaace them with the standard items if they are stolen?"

"so whats the point of me telling you about them if you wont insure them then?"

"because your insurance will be invalid if you dont"

"ok, so if i tell you my cars worth £150,000 that will put my price up for insurance wont it?"

"yes"

"and how much will you pay out in the event of a total loss?"

"the book value"

"goodbye"

knobbers!

They will all do this unless you get an agreed value policy.  You have to deal with it.

You\'re lucky to get a Quote at all on an FD at that age.

Got my 1st one when I was the same age and what a nightmare it was!!! Ended up paying just over £2000 with a £1000 excess and told that if I crash it or it\'s stolen it will be replaced with stock parts. Only company that would insure me.

OK, just got a quote with adrian flux, all mods declared.

£1800 comprehensive with £550 excess, with all mods covered on a like for like basis (e.g wheels get stolen, they give u the same ones again)

£2155 comprehensive with £550 excess all mods covered up to 320bhp. same as above really.

I\'m 20 and mine is just topping £3k with all mods declared :(  It\'s done on a agreed value basis

The only way I could get it was to use one of my boss\' friends who\'s a director of a commercial brokers.

ok. Sorted.

Was insured with flux @1100 a year TPFT

Now insured with flux fully comp, all mods declared with replacements on a like for like basis. power level at anything under 320hp, 8000 miles a year, 21 with 4 years NCB, 1 SP50 speeding fine. £1884 fully comp with £600 excess.

is NOT an agreed value deal (due to my age apparently?) but they said that in the event of a total loss then they will take into account any receipts i have for modifications to the car and add that on to the market value, and i have over £8000 worth of receipts so it shouldnt be a problem i dont think!

Not too bad i dont think, considering my age (dont get me wrong, i think its a disgusting price considering my driving experience and accident record, but its quite good within the market. IMO i should be paying no more that £1000 but what can you do eh?)

Not too bad at all!  I\'m praying to god that mine will drop to something like that this year :p

Insurance is based on statistics - so for the \'few\' of us who have good driving records (touch wood), we still get branded with the same label. :Grrr

Im 21 also, with 2 years NCB. Lemme tell you, getting an insurer to accept me PERIOD was a challenge, never mind getting a quote :)

Best has been A-Plan at just under 2k, small excess, fully comp - considering i was getting quoted 3-4k on insurers that WOULD issue a quote, thats top dollar.......man this car is gonna bleed me dry :D

and you know what impressed me the most? they sound like they really know what they are doing, rather than the phone monkeys at the more well know insurers.(I happen to be one of them, but there ya go :P)

I have just renewed my insurance on my UK spec RX7 with Admiral for £800. That\'s for a 22 year old with one years no claims in a low risk post code and it is defiantly insured as a 2616cc.

Which I think is pretty good. So very :)

I\'m 21, got 3points (SP50), 3yrs ncb, been driving for 4yrs never making a claim. I pay £1980 fully comp I think. Thats with insure your motor (one of the only firms that would actually give me a quote!!). That leaves me with no money to buy a run around.:(

man, seems a bit steep?

i was 22 when i insured my import fd, and fully comp with 2 years no claims was £1050 for the entire year? granted it was standard back then (and still is according to them, so i really should tell them about my changes which is something im going to tell them over the weekend) but still i guess i was lucky!

i am with elephant :) they are good on mods to as my previous car, which was a clio with tons of mods and they didnt charge that much for them! they just hate it if you lower the car.

however their montly payments is ****! they want 29% apr! so wouldve taken it up to 1400 but i just paid the £1050 all out right.

make none of us could get a price like that :)
got my renewal end of this month, best price at the moment looks to be 1125 from aplan, 5k miles a year, £500 excess, fully comp.. carbon fibre bonnet, wheels, hks air filters declared.
whats helping this year is the fact that ive now owned the car for over a year, which shows im not so much of a risk anymore to the insurers.
£1700 was the best last year :)
going to speak to my current insurer ( noel dazley )when i get back off holiday and see if they can beat aplan by a significant amount

all insurance companys wanna do is take ya money, and harf the time they dont pay out .....or they try to make up an excuse not to pay,so i dont see the point in telling them the truth anymore....coz there all assholes, none of them are respectable....
