Title: Two-stoke pre-mix oil
Post by: mr.bishi on January 17, 2007, 08:53:55 AM
Is anyone using it instead of the oil metering system?

If so,what ratio are you using?

I am not instead of, but as well as for added protection, right from start up, i full tank + half a litre of two stroke, or somewhere around 100-1 to 150-1,
Bob

Quite a few of us using it at a ratio of 100:1. Makes it easy to mix that way just add 1/2litre for every 50litres of fuel.

Its a personal choice a faulty pump or split pipe can cost you a engine but some people can\'t do with having to put oil into the tank. If you go premix then its foolproof so long as you remember to put the oil in the tank. Another plus side is if your driving the car hard it uses more fuel so also gets more oil.

A lots down to personal preferance. Anyone who\'s running premix and has played about with different oils will tell you its amazing how the engine responds to different oils, put a really good one in there and you can tell the difference with how freely the engine will rev. Personally i\'m using a Millers oil that is a purpose designed premix oil that is a blend of castors and synthetics. Also be wary if using methanol as meths and normal mineral oils don\'t mix hence why i\'m using a castor based oil.

So long as its designed as a two stroke oil and is ash less then you\'ve safe. Plus side when running premix and no metering pump the sump oil is only that so there\'s no problems running decent oil in the sump to look after your turbo\'s.

Thats the stuff. I spoke to there motor sports dept at length and they confirmed my thoughts that this was the best oil for what i was after. I must admit you could feel the difference more or less immediately once i started using this. Era also runs it in his 12a and found the same. Burns clean the engine is more willing to rev freely and plus side that lovely smell of castor.

We use there oils at work John so i get it delivered at the same time in 25litre drums which i split with Era. But they have stockists around the country or a on-line store. Opie oils (oilman) may well be able to get it for you or the silkolene equivalent.http://www.millersoils.net/purchase.cgi

I remember smelling Era\'s when he left Broadlands last year. Get few of us together running on caster based 2Stroke will be like a night out at speedway.

Castrol also do a modern semi-synthetic code No 747

Anyone injecting Methonol should be seriously looking at a Castor based oil as mineral oils do not like meths and yes the smell does take you back to the days of old.

I use Klotz Techniplate..very surprising results! Used by the Methonol 2 stroke drag bikes, we have had to adjust our mapping to suit..essentially resulting in running less fuel... ;)
I use 150:1 so works out as 200ml to 30 litres of fuel.

Cheers,
John

No castor oil is just that castor based its a natural oil that comes from a plant in its raw state it can be a bit sticky when blended with synthetics its slightly less sticky with much better lubricating properties. The castor based oils tend to be used in older two stroke race bikes high reving carts etc. Castor\'s are different from most oils in that the more temperature it is exposed to the better it lubricates the bonds in the oil molecules actually strengthen as they are heated the opposite to normal oils. Do a search and there\'s lots of tec papers on it.
