For a few years now i have had one of the dragon silenced midpipes on my fd. But, as happens with exhausts, it has slowly disintegrated. Last year i had a single turbo fitted, mapped up etc and it felt real quick. But my car failed its MOT on having a badly corroded mid pipe, so I changed it for one of the feed silenced jobs, which obviously has a slightly bigger bore (and no holes!!). I\'ve got a racing beat twin back box and some nice big fat downpipe that came with the turbo set up.
Just got round to fitting it today, and then took the car out and i swear it seems to be accelerating so much quicker than before! the boost doesn\'t seem to be spiking (got an e-01 boost controller so can see the boost graph reach the set level and then hold there all nice and flat). Is it me going mad and getting confused by the lack of noise or could changing the pipe have this effect?
Si
The smallest part of your exhaust will be the restricting factor. In this case the RB backbox is 3" external bore. The mid pipe may have been restricting it because it was shagged or it was smaller than The back box. I think mine is a Dragon and its falling apart too. Whatever the case mate I would get it re mapped as changing the flow of the exhaust can have quite suprising effects on the engine, and yes, on a turbo car can make a lot of difference to the performance. This is my opinion from years of messing and I am not in any way qualified to advise.
But you are right. Thats one of the reasons I have had to upgrade to a 4" exhaust. The faster the fuel goes in the faster the exhaust has to flow out. But you must balance it. Thats why when you are modding you do it in stages so you change things and re-tune and move on to the next stage.:driving
Cheers folks
So its not just my imagination then - i didn\'t think changing the pipe could make such a noticable difference, proves the money is worth it i guess!
So today\'s job is to give Carl a bell and get it in for re-mapping.
Again thanks for your advice

Not until he\'s finished fitting my new engine ;)
It could also be because you\'ve not driven it for a while - mine always feels faster after a few weeks away from it...

I\'m sure he would much rather map a real turbo though ... :rollin
I know what you mean about not having it out, but there is a possibility it may have been used for a few runs on tuesday night ... :driving

:D after you\'ve done all ours! :flamed
I will be changing my mid pipe to dragon silenced mid pipe. I have a big HKS bore 3†exhaust back box. Do I have to change my down pipe? I have a 96 RB Bathurst so there is no pre cat in the down pipe.
Sorry to “borrow†the tread

No it is all interchangeable. However the temp sensor cable will be left dangling, you will need to tuck that up out of the way, or pull it up into the car.
Also I read something somewhere about air pump now being defunct after decatting, not too sure..

It will feel quicker, If you have a leak on an Exhaust near the front it will create a Dirty Flow (like putting a Restriction in) it may not be much but you\'ll feel it. The flow of an Exhaust makes a masive Diffrence if you do it right ;)

Yes removing the cat means you can also remove the air pump.
