Title: Oh My God! What now? Smoke!!
Post by: RedRummy on January 14, 2007, 04:27:07 PM
Went for a spin today (well, tried to) got about 200yds down the road (after warming up for a while) and I noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet!  :2eek :2eek :2eek

Pulled over right away, killed the engine, and lifted the bonnet (once I knew there were no flames etc) and there was loads of smoke coming from the left side of the plenum (as you look into the engine bay)...

Anyway, when I listened near to the area could hear bubbling noises and it was obviously VERY hot round there (enigne had only been running 10mins and had only been driving for about 3mins).

I\'ve had coolant problems recently (forever!) and have been regularly filling up my coolant but it always seems to take more water than I can throw at it...

I was in at Re:Worx in November to have the inlet manifold gasket replaced, which was a turbos off job, and I still have a leak in the downpipe somewhere, so there is sitll a bit of an exhaust noise coming from that area...

The irony is, is going down to Re:Worx this Tuesday for a full service. now I\'mnot sure if it will make the journey across from brighton.

WTF is wrong???    :xconfused    :xconfused

Sounds like a turbo coolant pipe leaking.

Not sure on a fd how easy it will be to get to. One of the fd guys will nodoubt tell you if its possible to get to them. If it was removed only in November though it does sound like it wasn\'t refitted 100%.

was it actually smoke or steam? Thinking that the bubbling sound may be due to a leak in the cooling system somewhere preventing the system from pressurising, although I wouldn\'t have thought the coolant would be up to a high enough temperature for it to boil after 13 minutes. Did the bubbling sound like it was coming from inside the engine or did it sound like coolant hitting something hot like the turbos?

It was smoke, but it might have been smoke from dirt and oil debris stuck to the pipes round there - when the pipes got hot they burned off the dunk... it wasn\'t think smoke...

The bubbling sounded like it was internal... and I noticed when I turned it over an hour or so later, that I could hear something depressurising when I cut the engine - a slight squeak as some gas (or something) escaped in the turbo area.   :2Mad
