Title: Strange behaviour
Post by: tomotadahira on January 14, 2007, 01:59:08 PM
Morning all

Posting this on behalf of a m8 who is having some problems with his fd. The car was driving fine till a few weeks ago and then left on the driveway for about a week. when started the car was sounding croaky and lumpy and idled around 400rpm but then after some time ot would idle back at 900 rpm and sound smooth. Then took it for a test drive and car was boosting and running fine. Thereafter when stopping at traffic lights it would suddenly sometimes start getting croaky with revs dropping and sometimes keep revs at 900rpm and sound smooth.

So far the plugs have been changed and ecu has been resetted but no difference has been made. If anything it sounds even more lumpy now. One thing he noticed is if the lights are switched on or the AC or heating the revs drop VERY low. Almost as thou it will cut out. Seems electrical but what can it be?? :2Confused

May be worth getting a Vid of it running up, this could be alot of things but check the map sensor as that seems to be the most comon cause of these sorts of problems.

also have you tried gtting a fault code of it?

What do you mean by Croaky? is it missing or holding back etc?

also is it stock? does it have a cat on? does it drive ok all the way through the rev range?

Its possable it could be Electrical but its more likly that its the load that is causing it to run lumpy.

to get fault codes you need the info on the second post on this thread.
