Title: Rotary 500 Bhp Club................
Post by: Warthog on January 13, 2007, 06:18:14 PM
So just picked up the FD from RE:WORX, Geff and Chris have again done a fantastic job.

I am now a fully paid up member of the 500 bhp Club, ran out of injector duty at 556 bhp at the fly----470.3 at the Rear Wheels @ only 1.2 Bar on SHELL V-Power pump fuel.:Party

Will put another thread with pics later of my set up now after the work that has just been done, as just about to go out to the mini-meet at Luton.

Who who else is in club....................:Ladys-man

It is only fair that you should have 500 rwhp to become a member of the 500bhp club.
Do you have the Motec fitted?

Saw this baby on the rollers, must be one of the sweetest engines out there, soooo smooth did the 1.2 run and it looked just like it was cruzin down the motorway at 70.
That Motec sure makes the Apexi look \'ordinary\':InLove

500 hp club. OK.  But your only allowed in if its a daily driver. Anyone can build a 500hp engine that blows up at the bottom of the strip/street and / or is a pain in the ass to drive. This club also excludes those that have them mapped at 1.1 bar to make the power and then run them at 0.7:2Rolleyes

So thats ME in MY club then :Giggle

Well done, good power and all that.:cool

As I\'m sure the people that know me can confirm, I use my FD all year and I am a nutter. Last night for example got back from RE:WORX late, called James  up and he came over as he wanted a passenger ride to see how she was running. We went down to the Luton Mini-Meet in the rain, poor driving conditions but still enjoyed a Tunnel run down to Hatfield with the FD\'s & RX-8\'s.

We have now fitted the Motec, RE:WORX V-Mount ( full chat 19degs Intake Temp ) 4" exhaust.

Geff maxed out the injector duty at 1.2 bar so more work needs to be done there, I am running 550 prime & 1680 secondary Injectors.
My aim is to get to that 500 bhp atrw on PUMP FUEL.
The reason for that is that I just love playing with that Low to High Boost button I feel it is possible but we will have to see what the God of Power has in mind.
Low Boost is now 375atrw @ 0.95 bar.

I will be continuing track work this year and lots of it, thats why I have changed to the v-mount, boost, boost, boost.

I will let John explain about the Dyno as he witnessed the runs on Saturday morning prior to me getting down to RE:WORX. Seems both Geff & Chris are well pleased with the smooth power & very little boost for bhp.:InLove

That will be the plan mate, everybody that mods there baby always hits that wall of restrictions. You either stop or knock it down and go forward. I like knocking things down.
Already planning for next winter, engine out, dowl, Half Bridge etc etc. That is the beautiful thing about the rotary you can keep going. There will come a point though where I will have to stop as I still want to drive it on the road. I think that point will arrive after next winter.
Then I may have to stick a 13b in an MX-5 for road use. Always looking ahead.................:cheers

Cool thats two of us in the club then :driving

For comparison purposes on low boost, which is never used :Giggle , with an \'old technology\' (how I like them) TA45 and a 3" external bore exhaust at 0.8 bar I have 363 at the rear hubs.

I Will need around 650 fly to get the sort of power to weight my Stylus ran. Not sure if i am going for this or not as I do not want to compromise the cars driveability any more.

Daventry is an easy drive from me. Perhaps we can compare ball size in person :Thumbsup!

Good man, yes be great to meet up.
James --Copy taken from RE:WORX web page---

CONGRATULATIONS to James Willday, Fastest Privateer at RS3!!
James drove fantasticallywell all weekend achieving a best ET of 11.01 at 128mph! James was prevented from making what surely wouldve been his first 10 second run by the weather as the event was finally called off. James runs an FD RX7 with an RE:Worx extend ported motor and Trust T88 single turbo. Nice one James!!

only lives just up the road as well, about 5 miles from Bruntingthorpe. So close to you as well.

My mobile is 07771882430. Give me a bell and we can sort something out, she who must be obeyed is now fully trained in the art of making coffee............:2eek

Kev has the 3 rotar 20b RE engine as standard. I have a had a 20b RE engine rebuilt but as a twin rotar as it fits in the FD engine bay. The internals of the RE engine give you more to play with e.g. RE runners are 55mm and they can be made bigger. Now where did that Shell Fuel Tanker say he was meeting me.:evillaugh

Now you are asking, data logging, Lam, Traction Control, Launch Control. As I understand it Geff has far more control over anything tuning related. The Motec holds the electronic timing spot on, the PFC is not that reliable when you get up around the 500 bhp at the fly and timing can wander. Not good as that = bang.
The advantages of Motec must go on for pages but I have no idea. There will be people on here that know the in\'s and out of it. I don\'t.
I do not play with anything related to tuning elecrical, when it is set I don\'t alter anything ever. I am in some way a Tuners dream because I will not play with what they have set up.
My view is The Tuner knows better than I, that is why I am paying for it to be done. Why try and alter what is correct. If I want more power then I change my set-up under advice.
All I know is that she is as smooth as silk and is making massive power at a low boost setting all due to the RE:WORX crew and my beer tokens. :wave

Just sorted the ft/lbs 340---sweet bit of grunt from 6000-7500revs.
Chatting to Geff this morning and thanking him again for such a smooth beast. He told me they have done some back checking on my data against Stripy ( as my set up is almost a copy ), it seems that the porting Chris did on my engine is smaller that the porting on Stripy but a perfected shape from there R&D work. I am making 20 more BHP @ the wheels and using 0.2 less boost than when they ran there last 9.8 sec 1/4 mile run.
Geff & Chris are well pleased with this result as it proves the R&D work that they do on there cars can and is passed onto the customer in a proper smooth package. As Geff said he could not believe how smooth the runs were on the Dyno just like sitting on the motorway at 70mph.
I am well pleased I know that, she just pulls like a train and the power just keeps coming. You expect it to fade at some point but it just doesn\'t.:InLove

Congratulations mate, well chuffed for you. The Motec looks like such a good upgrade. I looked a a 300zxTT a while back and the guy had got a stupendous amount of extra power out of just retuning with the Motec. Loads more control over the fuelling and all the other good stuff.
The Motec looks like a good mod for the banana I reckon. I\'m also looking forward to seeing how the V-mounts that you and John Y are fitting perform.

thats some real impressive increases from the 375rwhp at .95bar to 470 at .25bar more!!!

what fuel pump are you running? Id have thought the next obvious step would be to go for 850 primaries with stock rail??

how did you figure the fwhp too? is that just an estimate based on 16% losses.

Hi Richard, Pump is a Boshe 044 ( only pump you will ever need for all mods) with stock fuel pump still in tank.
Fwhp Dyno pc does it mate.
850 primaries yes & extra Secondary as well. But not yet.

What makes this such a sweet feeling is that I am very close to what I have always wanted and that is a 500 bhp atrw FD on Pump Shell V-Power fuel. No Race Gas.
You may ask why.........simple I love to kill other Super Cars on the road, touch high boost, 3rd gear, 5000 revs = Elvis has left the building.:chat :chat :chat :3gears-lh

500 rwhp in a fd is a super car slayer:yes
but surely you must strugle to get it down on  tarmac roads !

I am having a year of Road & Track work this year. I may run it up the Strip at the end of the year.
It will going back in next winter to RE:WORX for the extra injectors etc and engine out strip down and half bridge for 2008. Still on the T51.
After that I will look at selling the T51 turbo and sticking two To4z\'s on it. I am always planning at least 12-18 mths ahead.:evillaugh
I can see when we get dry roads back again then a full set of TOYO 888\'s will be going on, but for this weather the TOYO Proxy\'s are gripping well, only a few wheel spins when changing up under load in the wet. As James will confirm from Saturday night on the Hatfield tunnel run we did in the rain.

well to get to 500 at the fly the three foundations you need is a large ported motor, medium to large single and lots of fuel then all the supporting mods on top, WI is a must past 1 BAR
The driveline will need attention as the standard Diff will turn to mush past 400 atw.
Look forward to lots of days with an empty wallet ;)

£30 for the injectors. I do have a rail too but that would be an extra £25 I know people cna run extra injectors in parallel, but havent heard of using 2 secondary rails ontop of each other to do this. Cant see why it couldnt work though and would be a very interesting setup.

Quote from: BlitzBoywell to get to 500 at the fly the three foundations you need is a large ported motor, medium to large single and lots of fuel then all the supporting mods on top, WI is a must past 1 BAR
The driveline will need attention as the standard Diff will turn to mush past 400 atw.
Look forward to lots of days with an empty wallet ;)

And where do you get an uprated diff from. Only place i would know to ask would be gary at rotaryart but not actually seen these.

Just had a laugh, rang Geff and told him I\'ve bought Richards 850 injectors to uprate my primes from 550 and the silence was like a very big scream of NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I laughed and told him not to worry the Hog was not looking to bring his FD back for more power as I have a lot of playing to do yet. The injectors will be put away safe where they can await other bits to keep them company that will be on my yet to be put together new Power Shopping List for work to be done later in the year.
He breathed a big sigh of relief and I could hear his mind thinking thank god !!!!!! I came off the phone with us both laughing our heads off.:rollin :rollin :rollin

I bought mine fram Gary actually a Kazz 1.5way, a bit clonky on very low speed turns, but excellant on launching and predictable on the edge

haha they must have got fed working on your car like they did mine last year, I got ordered by Chris and Geoff not to blow it up anymore :rollin

lucky I got them to do all my fuel system at the last visit :D

My fuel system is as follows, 850 Primaries,1680 Secondaries,Aeromotive FPR,Fully aeroquip fuel lines including from the pumps to the front of the car, Swirl Pot,Twin Bosch 044 pumps,Apexi BNR33 lift Pump. I am only hitting 74 percent Injector duty so far, so loads more scope for even more power

Had a quick trip to see Geff & the boys at RE:WORX today. Sorted out my fueling problem and handed her over to Max on the Dyno.

Made 487.9bhp at the wheels @ 1.3 bar with 420ft/lb, 575bhp at the fly, on pump fuel Shell V-Power. :D :evillaugh

We need to change the wastegate spring for a 1 bar one and then re-map with more boost and I think we will then make 500 bhp at the wheels on pump fuel. No time to fit that in today so I will need to pop down next month.

Gearbox will be done soon as just waiting for a bearing from Mazda. Will update when fitted and tested.

When I can get back down to RE:WORX and have that spring changed, Max said he will re-map at 1.3 bar and see what we get. It may be that we get the 500 at the wheels. If thats the case then we will leave it there. As thats been my target for 4 years now.
I don\'t know how much boost it will take but I wouldn\'t want to go over 1.5 bar.
You need to also look at the fact that we are only using the Extended Street Port on the engine. God knows what it would do if it was Half or Full Bridged.:2eek

If so then i think i\'m in,even though only just..:eek
Made 430BHP @ the hubs the other week at the Thor Dyno Day i arranged.
I think that equates to 508 BHP at the fly with the correct calculations??:)

Well, that sounds great 500 at the wheels but that boost is way way up there. Problem is life span of engine 2000 miles, get that 3 rotor stuffed in it as I am doing that power only running 12psi well in confort zone. It\'s cheaper in the long run! :3Confused

where the hell do you get that figure Normski 2000 miles life span??????:2Rolleyes

done well over 5000 miles since my half bridge and Johns T51 has done quite a bit of mileage at 1.2 BAR then again 1.5 BAR on a T51 is just warming up :Giggle

Well although I do have two settings on my boost controler I use my right foot for that, so it stays on high boost setting. 11,000 miles last year. Still more on top now from Insurance renewal.
I was only running 1.2 bar,( now up to 1.3 bar )  on a T51 thats just ticking it over.:spank
I will be upping it to 1.4 bar soon when Geff has a slot free for me to pop back down and he can change the wastegate spring from 0.8 bar to 1.0 bar. This will give the Maxmagician more freedome to play some more with my Motec ECU and get me that 12rwbhp on pump fuel.

It always makes me laugh,if there is so many of you 500bhp "GODS",then why dont you put your money where your mouth is and enter the privateers challenge up the dragstrip.Lets face it,its terminal speed over a quarter of a mile that really determines what power you have not bullsh*t figures on a dyno.Lets see some of you up the dragstrip and not on the dyno,to entice you pussys i have myself contributed £250 to the fund.:spank

Gauntlet thrown down me thinks Silverrexman..

As my FD is now set up for Track with a Gearbox being put together as we speak where the internals alone cost nearly £1400, line lock, rims and drag rubber sold on. Suspension set up changed etc etc etc.

If you want to foot the very large bill to put it all back to a Drag set up then I will enter the comp.

If not then you and I can have a private drag race at RS, as I will have a token play without the correct set up but not using the engines full potential to launch.

I had a great time on the Strip, learnt a hell of a lot, blew a load of other cars away, even won a trophy, blew up a set of twins in style at pod and eventually did a tip. Hence the time to change to a single.

Best time on twins was only 12.8, with cr8p launch 0-60ft times. As has already been said it\'s not about the bhp it\'s about the driver. Look at James 0-60ft times 1.53, near perfect.  Beer is cool.:D
One of the best things I enjoyed was blowing away Skybuses, unless they are well modded they are well slow up the strip, 14.5 ish.

Well I poped down to Santa Pod today to have 3 runs prior to RS 4.
I have run in the Os Giken 5 speed gearbox now and it was time to give it a full boost loading and have a go up the strip after 18 months away from it.
A lot has been changed on my FD as it is set up for track including the gearing in the gearbox.
The car performed without a fault. The gearbox is fantastic. But I, without knowing it, have answered a question that has always been in the background.
The old rush has gone, I didn\'t get that old buzz and my heart was not in the launch. The waiting around and messing about is just not for me, so I am backing out gracefully and leaving it to James to show you all the way.
I now know that the prolonged buzz I get on track is far more satisfying, I just love it. The car is set up for track, it performs beautifully and I love it.
So I will not be running up the strip at RS 4. I will however, be giving it full boost at TRAX round the Silverstone GP track and thats the big difference I am really looking forward to it.
It\'s taken me a long time to get to where I am now and I now know I am happy with the decision I made over 18 months ago to give Track work a go.
Her Royal Hogness has just said " I told you so, you have far more fun on track days and anyway I love coming out as a passenger round track".
That just about sums it up.
Good luck to everyone at RS4, we will be there to support you all but our hearts will be with James. See you soon.:cheers

As I said above Jamie, I didn\'t know it until today mate. Life is strange and you think you want one thing and in fact it\'s not really what you want at all. The car is a 10 sec car, if I let James have one run in it he would nail a 10 sec run no question. But I just can\'t see the point in it now. I just didn\'t get any buzz out of it whereas before I just loved it. Then I did Silverstone GP and I just loved it, 20-30 mins at a time of full on boost and skill, quality.:wave

I only ran 13\'s dead, my heart just wasn\'t in the launch and thats what did it for me. You have to be in the zone and nail it everytime. My old 0-60 ft times were always 1.6ish not in the same class as James with 1.5\'s. Today they were 2.8 +, It doesn\'t take much working out. one tenth on launch is worth two tenths off your time at the end so 1.2 x 2 = 2.4. 13 - 2.4 = 10.6.
I could come up with lots of things notraction etc etc etc, but what it all comes down to is my heart wasisn\'t in it anymore. So having found that out I can now concentrate on the track skills and have days of fun instead of just a few seconds and lots of waiting around.
James first run was 10.774 with a cr*p 0-60 ft due to no traction on a poor preped strip he dropped the trye pressure for his second run to compensate, second run fantastic launch and then he snapped a drive shaft due to the fact they had to put glue down  due to a 106 leaking all over the strip.. and his tyre pressure was too low. Enough said.
Her Royal Hogness and I will be fully behind James shouting and screaming him on at RS4 just as we were at 10 of the Best. Go James Go.:wiggle
