Title: Differences between, 93 & 94 fd rear sub-frames?
Post by: Spartacus on January 12, 2007, 05:20:28 PM
Hi, anyone know the differences between the 93 and 94 rear sub-frames and any easy way of visually telling them apart? Also are they interchangeable?
Many thanks

Are you referring to the forward facing braces?

Ive got 2 subframes here in front of me.....ones a 92, the others a 94. They look identical to me!
If you need a bare subframe give me a shout as one of these is going to the skip today...the other one tommorw!

From what I\'ve read the 94> sub-frame Incorporated some changes with regards to being strengthened, just wondered if these changes affected the fitment of suspension parts etc.

BTW I don’t need one, thanks anyhow.

taken from another site, "A 1994-1995 rear subframe  (picture below) already includes V-shaped braces which do much of what the rear pieces of the Auto EXE kit does. It should be noted that 1993 subframes do not have the rear mounting points required for the Auto EXE braces and do not have the V-shaped brackets. Instead, they have a single brace per side (silver) which does not tie the rear of the subframe into the body." Make any sence to anyone??

Where abouts are you? I\'d be tempted to take one off your hands or out of your skip if it\'s the same as my 94 one.

Ahhhhh it was you with the boss, not in St Albans any more? …. I’d be grateful if you could hold onto one until I can find out the differences I might have a use for it.

Yes the additional braces were meant to be standard on the 94+ cars, I think, although we have noticed, that some later cars dont have them. I\'m sure we have a subframe in the store with the braces, however quite alot of work to replace.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up guys, I’ve just had a look under mine and it has the braces, so off to the skip with them. Although now knowing what the difference is and that they wouldn’t affect the fitting of suspension etc I’m wondering how much difference the extra bracing actually made?

You could always weld/bolt in additional bracing. A Diff brace will offer a more stable rear end and reduce wheel hop.
