GUTTED...
No idea what happened...running sweet as a nut on a Sunday, week prior to Xmas...come Monday Red Rex had stopped.
Only been to WGT 2 months before and given clean bill of health.
Had two mechanics out in past 2 weeks and despite doing all the usual flooded tricks (its auto, so no dragging round the block!) it turns but absolutely no compression? :2eek
Battery was low but we put a new one on and a little more effort but not even the start of a start...
I dont know 1st thing about cars. (hence two local mobile mechanics):spank
Anyone live near enough to give it an RX experienced look over and kiss of life, or give the last rites...:god
Worth several drinks and eternal gratitude???:Thumbsup!
Steve
How did you test the compression? And are there any more symptoms??
Chris
No physical test that I know of to check compression. Both mechanics spent 1 or 2 hours plus and then said - got electric power but no compression? gave them details off this site for flooding and they both removed & cleaned plugs...
Only other symptom I can think of...
On the morning that it didn\'t start, the HEAT light and buzzer sounded when it went to start, didn\'t start and then hasn\'t ever since...
Sorry to say, I struggle with changing a wheel so everything else is a mystery..
Ta for help though Chris
If you know anyone who can take a spark plug out, this thread should help a bit:

It\'s a very quick test that gives you a general indication of whether or not the problem is in or out of the block.
Thats how I (well millspeed) found out my engine was knackered.
Chris
Thanks Chris
will need to hunt down someone who can!
Sorry to hear you had a dead un
Steve
sounds like you need a rotary expert... not yer "local mechanic"
nothing against em, but you need the inside tips and tricks knowledge.
Its easy to check if there is Compression or not? Egi fuse out and The top rear plug then Turn it on the Key and listen to the Noise, then Replace that plug and remove the Front Top plug and turn over in the same manner. When your Doing this Have a Third Party stand and Watch to see how much White smoke comes out of the Plug hole.
Don\'t take this the wrong way but when you take a Car to e.g. WGT and ask what condition the engine is in he can only give you a Guide from His Knolage/Compression test Results/Condition of Servicable items (giving an Idea of how its serviced) and Driving it, Without pulling the Motor to bits and Measuring every thing this is all he can realy do. Is often sods law that after its had a Full bill of health you\'ll develop a Problem.
Also i keep hearing storys of Mechanics who don\'t know Rotarys using Stock Boinger Comp testers which protrude into the Bore which inturn Damages your Apex\'s when its Turned over.
So you start off with a well flooded Motor and end up needing a rebuild, all i can say is its worth getting people to look at your car that know the engine.
Theres a couple of us locally that could come have a look, im not far out a telford, and Crazy Eddie is in Telford too.
I`m in wolverhampton, currently doing a heart transplant on my own 3rd gen thus have gained a fair bit of knowledge, gimme a call anytime would be happy to have a look for you, Ade. 07834328788
Maybe we could have a mini meet round yours and put all our heads together I\'m sure between us we could sort it or at least give a diagnosis! :D
Thanks to all who have posted...Grizzly- spot on about health checks proceeding sickness - certainly not a criticism of WGT who are canny. Just luck...
Chopper, Ade and Crazy Eddie...sorry for not getting back to you sooner.first time I\'ve looked at email since 12th..family emergency (they say things come in 3s!!!)
Stuck in London till Friday Aft but if any of you are free this or next weekend (any time to suit you), drop me a line ...curry and beer in abundance!
Thanks again for replies...stars
Crazy Eddie\'s idea sounds good...if we can\'t get the bugger going then it\'s still a good excuse for a beer!
Been a while mate have you had any joy with this yet?
id like to know too
Hi guys
family illness has been main priority is spare time recently...thanks for the concern.
Am back in area until 5th March so have just sent you a message (Eddie) and I\'ll be giving Ade a call either today or tomorrow.
Sitting on a drive for a couple of months ain\'t good for anything, but hopefully a bit of knowledge and TLC will solve the problem...
Either way, beer and food will make me feel good!
Cheers
Steve
Well if you get hold of Ade then let me know and we can see what we can do. I think Chopper would be able to help aswell seeing as he is becomming a dab hand at taking his car apart :D
Let me know anyway bud.:Thumbs-up
Call anytime, my phones on 24/7 dude :Thumbs-up
Just wanted to say a massive thanks to the fellas above, who go by R1Dude & Crazy Eddie on the site...:god
Came out today and got Dead Red Rex going after nearly 2 months of thinking the worst....
Not only did they do the honours on plugs and leads, flooded engine and twisted pipes, but they also spotted a screw that had been thrown into the radiator via the fan creating a bloody great leak, and provided a fix on that.
When the white smoke started pluming out the exhaust, and smoke was coming off the engine, it looked critical...but a good run in and lots of finger crossing have seen the car regain its former glory...fantastic to have my bog standard red back and going ...:driving
Top guys, and I\'ll now need to rename Dead Red...! :D
NB. Eddie - what time is the next Midlands meet at Bridgnorth/Ironbridge on Sunday 4th March...I\'ll be there and so will Ade and Barry?
Cheers
Steve
Great to meet all three of you today and cheers for the coffee and bacon sarnie! :Thumbs-up
Glad I could contribute by seeing that screw :D
Hope to see you all at the Ironbridge meet which is at 4pm on 4th March.
Having said that the RX owners have been meeting at Bridgnorth at 330pm to then arrive in convoy to the meet.
