Title: 10k ish - Good RX7 for this ?
Post by: RobPhobos on January 10, 2007, 03:49:50 PM
Howdy there guys,

In April I\'ll be looking at picking up a new motor, I do have a short list, and do most of my browsing at PH, have to say I am fond of the RX7.
Im looking for a fairly high BHP (more than 350 maybe).

Any particular places I should be looking, basically I dont want to end up having to rebuild the engine in the first year of use, pref 2 years.
Im looking for one that is prepped for track use maybe.

Appreciate the advice, shame we never see any REXś on tunnel runs.
:3gears-lh

note:
I prefer to pick up a car that is known, as my friend has had a problem recently with one company importing an RX.
However I am open to purchasing from a dealer if warrenties are good.

I have one for sale and is rebulid/ ported 8k ago with running over 400bhp at the wheels.  Not much needing to do on her as it is but can be turned into a track monster with changes or by adding few susspension bits to her.

Oh and when and where are these tunnel runs taking place...im always up for these with few others here...:driving

oh, and with the market it is at the moment, you will get a very good single turbo FD for 10k, probably with a fresh engine rebuild. :cool

Hi.

Well AFAIK, it doesnt matter what you bring, and if someone has a problem with it, it wont be anything to do with the organisers (guys i know). They dont care what you bring as long as it makes the sound that makes us all weak at the knees.
I guess the only thing that is mildy frowned upon is cars that are OTT (mile high wings, stickers all over the place, neons ect ect) but even then to be honest it doesnt really matter.
I think there will always be a problem/snobbery with Jap cars when the majority of cars there are TVRs or other exotics, not sure why. I mean for me personally I HATE german cars, but if a GT3 or GT2 turns up, I can be swayed ;)
er anyway, I\'m actually living in Spain for this year so I wont be keeping much of an eye on the tunnel runs, unless Im popping back for a weekend (which funnily enough would coincide with a run ;) )

I\'ll drop a friendly PM or two to remind people when a run is approaching, also I\'d like to see a 7 up close and personal as I\'ve never come across one !!! (let alone heard)

Anyway I will shut up now.
Welcome mate :wave

Sounds good. I don\'t live far from farnham if you ever fancy a look at an FD. my car is on the way to being set up for the track.  it\'s very quiet at the moment though! (by RX7 standards anyway).

Sound good RAW !
:)

The other cars on my 10kish list are:
Griff 500
Bike engined lotus seven replica (like DAX/Sylvia ect)
Perhaps but doubtful Elise (doubtful because I dont want a 4pot).
:D

First I have to patch up my GTO, get it serviced and sell it, then I can start actually looking at the shortlist cars.

Cheers for the welcome, tons of info here for me to get stuck into.

a pretty wide and varied selection! i love the griff-esp the noise it makes! :mmmm

i don\'t think i could find anything to replace my FD however, not for 10k anyway. if you get a decent, well sorted car with a new engine for around 8k and spend 2k on some sensible mods (or blow the lot on APs!) you will have a weapon for the road and track.

bhp/£ there isn\'t much competition. :driving

Yeah ideally I could take this onto a track as well, I want to strip out the interior so just two bucket seats, cage, fire extinguisher (for cars behind me :D ), the handling and breaking are just as important to me as the bhp.
Anyway, probably getting ahead of myself there.

I definately cannot make a decision until I have been in them pref on the same weekend, hehe. I know at least 2 of my choices its not a problem.

My ONLY sort of sensible problem I can foresee is that now Im living in Spain (Santiago de Compostela), is servicing any of these cars or getting spares.

At least now I know that I can pick up nearly exactly what I want in an RX for my apx budget (could be more if im lucky). Oh if im really lucky I\'ll be getting an SR3 LOL.

Yo.
Yeah I\'ve seen your car about now actually, BUT it was always stationary (at cannons).

RAW:
Ah man that is sweet !
Its got to be black hasnt it, just looks soooo right.
Well for most of its first year it will be living in Spain, and I will only be taking it out for \'spirited\' drives in the mountains or forests, I dont have to commute to work (unless you call 1 min walk commuting ! hehe) so will be purely a play thing.

1994 Mazda RX7. Imported by Brian Ellis who owns Rotary Imports-
Had it converted to a Single turbo ( HKS TO4) and several tuning parts added such as HKS Twin plate clutch, quaife fully lockable diff, full engine re-build on arrival in the uk, New rotor housings, new plates, water/methanol injection- I run water injection as methanol was used for Drag days, skyline uprated fuel pump, x2 1200cc injectors, strengthened apexi seals-tips, Trust front mount intercooler, uprated radiator, HKS filter, apexi power FC ( Fully mappable ECU ) Close ratio box, straight through exhaust( very loud) GReedy pully kit, HKS Coilovers, roll cage front and rear strut brace, momo steering wheel ABflug full bodykit, mazda speed bonnet and rear wing x7 Gauges oil temp, pressure, fuel pressure etc..
I had a full re-spray in November 2006 (£2000) in Mazda Bronze, so the body work is immaculate.

It has 1.2 bar (424bhp) and 1.4 bar settings and taking full power to 480 bhp at the wheels in something lighter than Skyline, Supras etc. It is as quick as my uncles 760 bhp Supra. I have probably forgotten other bits but please feel free to email rickyfernandez25@hotmail.co.uk (rickyfernandez25@hotmail.co.uk)
or ring on 07709 314494.
Thousands of £££ have been spent on this drag set-up road legal car, and i will take £ 10,500
Thanks. Rick

Just as a sorts of thoughts update...
I do keep finding myself day dreaming about the RX7 more than the other cars now, I keep thinking of a stripped out interior and roll cage, and completely ridiculous noise and flames...haha
To start with I kept on thinking about the bike engine and sequential box on sylva or something.

I guess the ONLY practical thing I need to think about is servicing whichever car I buy. Servicing any of them in Spain could be a royal pain in the you know what.

Just bumping this up again:

What are the typical things that could go wrong on a high BHP RX7 ?
At worse I guess its an engine rebuild right ?
I noticed there was a Mazda garage nearby but because these are specialist tuned cars, where the hell could I take it to get serviced/maintained/upgraded ?
My only guess is a drive back to the UK.

Thanks again.
