Hi there, i\'m new to this forum and have been searching for this topic with no success so if it\'s been asked before, I apologise! Anyway, i\'m looking for the performance figures for the the RX7! I\'m looking to buy something in the region of a 93-96 car but can\'t find much info on standard ones! I\'m more interested in 0-60 and 0-100 times rather than top speed. As I currently have a M3, whatever car I get next is gonna need to out accelerate it, (who want\'s to go slower eh?) and the only cars I can think of at the moment in my budget are the RX, an EVO or a Supra TT so any help would be very much appreciated!!
supra is too hvy i wouldn\'t. Evo\'s are nice but they arnt an RX7 at the end of the day. Not sure of the figures but i do know that i have had a goog play in red nearly stock FD with M3\'s in the past.... FD all the way. once you go rotary you\'ll never go back to those upy downy things :chat
and welcome by the way
Performance of a stock car is:
power: 250 -260 bhp
0-60 is about 5.1 sec
and 0-100 would be about 14 sec at a guess!!
Jono
Sorry wasn\'t thinking!!! I\'ve edited my 0-100 ( I wasn\'t hinking or typing straight!!!)

Christ, they come on song a bit after 60 then! I\'ve never been in a RX before and i\'ve never raced one in the BM so I honestly have no idea on there performance! As i\'ve seen some really smart kits for the RX, thinking it\'s favourite at the moment!

Errr.....
I think that\'s a little optomistic.
Stock quarter mile has to be high 13\'s / low 14\'s.
If it did 0-100 in 8.5 secs, you\'ld be in the 11s for sure !!
you wouldn\'t be disapionted

Agreed. 8.5 0 - 60 is a very fast road car.
My friend had an m3 evo and even when I was having boost problems so running at about 85% power on a stock car there was nothing in it, on the twisties I\'d leave him easily, a slightly tuned RX should walk over a M3
Ok, so 8.5 to 100 is a little ambitious but either way it still has some speed in it? Funny thing is I hardly ever break the speed limit and don\'t drive on Motorways ever so I wouldn\'t get to go anywhere near 100 but it\'s just nice to have it there just in case!
here you go ladies, a very useful site!

If I remember some of the Type R model\'s come with 280 bhp and they do 0-60 in about 4.9 ?

Think thats only on the later cars.... late 90\'s

Some of their figures appear to be a bit sus........ R33 Skyline GTSt aparantly has the same performance as the 92 -96 rex........ I beg to differ on that one!!
Jono
i think u need to take another look mate.
rx7 0-60 5.2 276bhp
skyline gts r33 5.9 246bhp
isn\'t that about right???
i think you have looked at the uk rx7 spec, they are a bit slower than a jap import arent they???
Prety sure the 92-96 cars were all 250ish as mine\'s an import 92 and was dynoed at 260 with incuction & exhaust!!
Jono
my last car was an E36 M3, It was a great car but it\'s a mini tourer - it\'s not as involving as the RX, which is a proper sports car. there\'s no four door diesel version of an RX-7. There\'s much better feeling from the res, the suspension\'s better and the brakes are better, although the M3 was far from mediocre in those departments.
Can\'t really compare the acceleration as I brought mine in straight from Japan and i need to get it mapped, so I\'m just tipping around at the minute.
If you get an RX, you won\'t be disappointed. If you\'re like me that is :)
and your next problem will be trying to go one better than the RX... i can see myself holding onto mine for a long time!
255bhp 0-60 in 4.9 for a 1992 jap spec R1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RX7

Cheers bud, nice to get a comparison on the 2 cars! I need to get a test drive sorted in one but there is never any for sale anywhere close to me and I don\'t fancy a 250 mile round trip just to go for a drive! Once the BM is sold though then I can go hunting properly!!
and lets face it, who leaves their car standard!? a mildly modified FD will easily out perform an M3, and more importantly, will feel a lot more special. (and get a lot more attention) :cool

there are quite a few FD owners up your way-i\'m sure you can find a couple to have a ride in.
i think there is a lot of confusion about the bhp of different rx7s, with different types and different years being different bhp, i guess really its down to the individual car, i think depending on the mileage of the engine, how well it is running, how well maintained etc makes alot of different. If a rx7 has high mileage and has been poorly maintained im sure it would lose alot of power over standard.
I think you have to base it on the individual car, they are all different and of course figures on websites and from mazda etc are always on standard cars out the box brand new.
Roughly:
UK cars 237hp
1991-1995 \'mostly\' 255hp
1996-1999 \'mostly\' 265hp
99 spec+ \'mostly\' 280hp
This is if you find a stock FD.
Just spend a bit on it Power FC,Exhaust and Filter then get it set up by a Pro, You\'ll be happy.
Just make sure you buy a good one, there getting on and alot have had a Hard life (there is a BIG diffrence)
Where abouts in Scotland are you located ?

Thank\'s for all the replies and advice guys, much appreciated. Once I get the BM MOT\'d and sold, i\'ll have a better idea of money I have to spend and the type i\'m going to get!
Oh, I\'m in Carnoustie.
This might help:
"The third RX-7 did generate some astounding numbers. Road & Track had an R1 blitzing from zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds with the quarter being consumed in 14.0 seconds at 98.5 mph. Motor Trend had it doing those same tricks in 5.3 seconds and 13.9 seconds at 99.7 mph. This was one seriously fast car."
Doh sorry you mean Mag figures, (need to read properly before Posting ;))
That info came from here:

Blandford forum, about 3/4 an hour from Bournemouth if you don\'t know it. What about you?
I have had all three of the cars you said... supra TT aero (BPU) evo VIII FQ330 (tuned) and an RX7 twin. If this helps....
I sold the RX7 for the supra - sold that for the evo and then went back to the RX7.
what others have said is true.... supras are very very heavy!! so 320bhp standard in reality isnt that much. my supra (aeroTT) was 1800kg standard!!! Rx7s are way less. evo was ok but i know that my single Rx is way quicker than that was.
i say RX any day.!!
Buy a good one with lots of advice mate. No question is too small, lots of help and free advice on here.
BUT be warned you will mod it and it will empty your wallet.
You will end up a slave to the God of POWER.

not so i was driving faster than this on a private road the other day equivalent to a good B road or rough A road and flew through 100, i don\'t bother with the 0- 60 too much as they are light so its very easy to spin the wheels in 1st and the back slides round if your not careful so i try to wait until 2nd on to open her up properly.
there are a few up in Scotland now so it would be worth meeting up with them, I\'m sure they wont mind taking you out.
