Title: Rotor Question ?
Post by: Brett Single on January 04, 2007, 11:59:05 PM
Any technical boffins know WHY?
on the build spec for rotors do you need to have land wear no smaller than 0.08mm

Does this gap help sealing rings and oil retaining rings seal better?:3Confused

Or is there some other reason?:xconfused

Any one,,, Info Please:2Confused

Well, you need some clearance or else the Rotor would touch the housing?

When you say housing your talking about the iron plate?...... so if that part of the rotor touches the iron plate it causes problems ??

The "Iron plate" is called a "housing", or "side housing".

We want only that land, and the side and corner seals, to touch the side housing. The side of the Rotor is not designed to slide against the housing, but the land and the seals are.

The land area is designed to prevent the rotor itself from touching the side plates under extreme loads such as revs.
If the land area clearance was less then the side and corner seals can and do get stuck in the rotor itself, which leads to zero compression.
If you think about it,what stops the rotors from moving back and forth along the eccentric? It is the seals and at limit the land area, they are free floating other than this.
