Title: Battery relocation??
Post by: Jono FD3 on January 04, 2007, 09:45:42 AM
Hi guys.....

Going to be sorting out the mods on the 7 over the next few weeks, the main one being the custom V-mount. Due to the size of my monster IC (was a big front mount off 200SX) I\'m going to have to shift my battery to the rear of the car (I think)!!!

Basicaly I\'m needing to know what people have used to do this mod...... what size cable, fuse & Fuse holder???? I was thinking about using a fuse & holder from an amp setup..... you know the ones: clear plastic carryer with the gold plated termanals & glass fuse in the centre 30 - 60 amp fuses available!!!

Also where have you run the cable & how have you connected to the standard battery loom??? have you just connected the extra wire to the original battery terminals or have you bined them & put it straight to the starter???

Pics if poss!!

Cheers
Jono

There are a couple of *really* excellent threads over on rx7club.com at the moment about this! They\'re in the 3rd gen section I believe.

What are your thoughts about running the positive cable outside the car (following the breake pipes & things???)

As long as it is tidy and safely tucked away I don\'t see any problem. I\'ve run cables on the underside in the past with no problems.

My concerns, if it were me, would be.

1) In case of accident or rollover, the battery would have to be in a waterproof container.
2) The brackets would have to be fduking strong - imagine being hit on the back of the head by that if you crash !

You need at least 2 runs of 4awg running from the battery. That means you can have 2x 60amp fuses on each of the lines. You will need a sealed battery if you want it in the car or sealed away in a box. Mines a very small PC680 battery and i bought a mounting kit with it and screwed it into the boot panel under the brace.

My cable is running down the car. There is a large gromit behind the inner wheel if you take the back inner liner out, it doesn\'t have to come out all the way just for access.

I have my cable bolted back to the original mounting point with the battery mounting tab cut off.

If you do a search for boot battery there are alot of good threads that have pics of relevant stuff.
