Title: FD Seat Removal
Post by: J4P RX on December 16, 2003, 01:44:27 PM
So how am I supposed to do this.  At the moment I plan on just undoing random seat things untill it comes out.

I can see two plastic covers at the front of each rail which presumably have bolts under them.  Dont know how to get the covers off though.  I can also see a nut near the seatbelt, but im thinking this wont be needed if the whole thing lifts out in one go.

How is the rear attached and how do I get to them clips, it presumably isnt just held on at the front.

Oh, and the seatbelt isnt attached to the seat is it?  I hope not!

Before anyone asks I dont plan to sit on the floor.  I have a Bride Bucket to go in, and whilst maybe waiting till the weekend would be good I might get half hour of light tonight after work.

Cheers

to undo the front there are covers there you get you fingers behind them (you will notice a hole behind them) and pull the clips towards the front of the car, i belive the seat belt is not attached on the seat. also watch out for any sensor s which may be attached under the seat, i dont know if there is any because i did not take the seat out fully.

have the seat right the way back when doing the front as you hardly have any room !

Bolts are 14mm, there are 5.
Remember to undo Electrical connector under seat.
Slide seat forward and back to gain access to bolts.
Let seat go forward as though someone is getting in back of car, this is the easiest way to get them out.

I lost

Just 1 more bolt as well but it wont budge, and the others were tough enough.  Will have to try again tomorrow now.

Some of them seem to go like that. I took mine out a few weeks back. All but one on both sides came out e-z-p-z. Fortunately I had access to a windy gun otherwise I\'d have had problems :(

Good luck!

I have no gun, and a poor toolset.  I just thought WD40 may help though reading this.

Gonna give it a shot anyway.

Ross (or anyone who knows),

What does this cable to.  It just goes to the seatbelt clip, but the seatbelt seems to clip and in release without it.  Do I need to hook it back up or can it be left?

Is it a seat belt pre-tensioner?

Never even considered the FD might have one, hmmm. If its that the bit the belt should clip into will have a tiny little gas cylinder attached to it somewhere in case of an accident in which case it goes off and rips you back into your seat :D

If you don\'t have a workshop manual you can download one from this site and its free.

Might be of some use to you getting the seats out!

Just read on the how to, and that indeed is the one.  Wont worry about connecting that back up then.  I think I know if my belts done up or not :)

Right its in.  No seatbelt, but I have ideas and im not doing it now being parked a mins walk from my house, working on a roadside in pitch black.

My initial thoughts are:

1 - Fook me its low.  I may as well be sitting on the floor.

I can adjust hight, but thats effort so Ill just see if I can get used to it first.  Heel and toeing should be easier once I am.  My left leg is almost fully outstretched to press the clutch (with seat furthest back) and I have pretty long ones :p .  Might be a good mod for those tall people struggling to fit.  Havnt driven it yet, may be fine once I do.

2 - Hmmm, Im gonna look a tit getting out.

If you had trouble getting in and out before, then this is not your thing!  I didnt even think the sides were big but getting in and out is much harder.

I shall just go and get pics for those who requested, but they may not come out well.

Edit, forgot to mention the fit seemed to be better than the standard seat, which wouldnt go back in at all this lunch time and this dropped straight into place.

Which seats did you get mate??

*dreams about getting some rx8 seats in the FD*

Its just a Bride bucket seat.  I had always said id get a pair, but as I said on another thread thats a pain because...

1 - I wouldnt have access to behind the seats to store things like trackday wheels if they were both fixed back (and if they are recliners whats the point).

2 - At least someone can still get in the back

3 - Some of my mates wont fit in a bucket seat lol

I didnt actually think of any of that at a time - Ive just made them up to justify getting it to myself but I got a good price anyway.

RX8 seats look cool but Ive never sat in one.  Prefer a proper race seat myselfy anyway, and now I can think about a harness.

Pics...

I had intended to show how low it is but depth doesnt come over well.  The bottom of the seat squab (which isnt thick) is on the floor pretty much.

Im now going to realise how much I took the original seat belt support on the seat for granted.

you\'ll realise how much you used to hang onto the steering wheel while going round corners once you get a harness in ! ... put them in the 323 and found the difference from the base model seats to some half decent bucket like gti model seats and a very good set of harnesses was amazing ... changing gear mid roundabout was a lot easier and I found that I was pushing the car much harder as I wasn\'t sliding all over !

just the seats should be a noticable difference as yours a full buckets.

excellent seats mate! Some lovely harness bars for the back knocking about Rotary Extreme does a good one with eye holes for the harness.
