Hey ppl, from reading previous threads i think the racing beat exhaust is for me. Iv looked around and it seems i can save my self half the money if i order from usa...is it possible i will get charged import duty? and how much do u think? and is it the same exhaust for a left hand drive car as it is for my right hand rx7 ????
Have they quoted you for shipping? can be expensive for bulky and volumed out stuff assuming u r airfreighting...
Without using \'fraudulent\' shipping documents i.e. marking the goods value down to not a lot, you will in theory get charged 4.5 to 10% import duty on the cost of the exhaust and the value of shipping, then 17.5% vat on the total of (exhaust+shipping+duty), plus the usual clearance and admin fees.
See what other people have ended up paying, could be not a lot if you are lucky, could be full whack as above if Custms have had a slow day and deceide to open and investigate your box :Grrr
The actual catback is the same for RHD and LHD cars - its only the downpipes that are different (RHD d/pipes have to be shaped to clear the steering rack, LHD obivously dont).

If its for the 1st gen then the racing beat one should fit ok because the steering box setup is different. If its for the 3rd gen the downpipe won\'t fit but the rest will. The RHD downpipe has a flare at the top to get round the steering setup.

The last time I asked for clarification on behalf of a client the HMRC Written Enquiries Team responded thus:
QuoteMost goods imported into the UK from a country outside the EC are liable to customs duty and VAT charges. These must be paid whether;
* you purchase the goods or receive them as a gift;
* the goods are new or used;
* the goods are for your private use or for sale.
Cars are subject to customs duty of 10%; car parts are subject to customs duty of 4.5%. Cars and parts are subject to VAT at the standard rate of 17.5%.
Customs duty is charged on the customs value of the goods. This value consists of the cost (purchase price) of the goods plus the cost of shipment to the UK plus the cost of any insurance incurred in connection with shipment. VAT is charged on the customs value plus the duty.
In addition to this, some countries of origin incurr additional duty relavant to specific commodities due to specific levies in place :Hammer Imports of some automotive parts from the US a couple of years ago were effectively subject to increased duty of 10% due to this...
There was a lower limit value of 36 or 38 quid, I assume this still stands. I\'ll check this week for an update, but on stuff I import from japan and the states its never as low as 2% thats for sure :-/
really...ill have to check what i got chraged n the last set of bits I imported for my hondas....given it was about a year ago, but i certainly dont remember it being 4.5%! another reason to leave this country :(
My car is a third gen fd :driving so as long as im just going from cat back i will be ok??
it looks like it will cost £265 including shipping, but thats not including duty/tax if it gets caught... still looks like it could be a saving of at least £70 mayb more....
