Hi All
I am thinking of changing my stock ic to xs power smic. I may be getting the ic from one of the members here. However, the pipes have been sold so I need to get the pipes form somewhere.
Is any one selling “pretty looking pipes (Blue or red) Vendors welcome...
I will either get the job done by reworks or I may try to do it my self (god give me strength)
Has any one done a similar job and where did you get the pipes from and for how much?
Did your intake temp dropped? Does that increase the bhp with out a map? Do I have to map the car?
(96 jap import RB Bathurst, stock twins with Apexi PFC, boost increased to 0.92, injector duty at max 84%, cat still in the mid pie but will be removed in the next 2/3 months)

Hiya mate,
First things first, rally design do a whole lot of pipes and couplers for very cheap prices.
You can see their website on //www.raldes.co.uk i think. Go into the online shop and then the silicon pipes section and they will have what you need.
For example, heres how i did mine...i removed standard IC, placed my IC and thought about what i would need:

Looking at the turbo outlet, i can see i need a 90 degree elbow, a straight piece, and a slighty curved piece to attatch that to the IC inlet. For this you can use a slightly curved piece of piping, but im going to cut off the inlet and reweld it straight on so this wont be required.
from the outlet you can see that a 90 degree piece will probably do the job.
so youve made up your list, order them up with some clamps and get to work :)
Any Q\'s you can PM me or discuss here.

Hi
Many thanks for the photo and the info…
I am quite new to working on the car so can you kindly explain to me which one is turbo outlet, which one is inlet and so on…
From the picture I can see 3 round “pipes which have to be attached…
The site you have recommended does not do direct piping for RX7 unless they are all standard…Do the pipes have to be made of metal or other material?
Did you have to cut the air duct?
Regards,
Michaelb
no only two i think, the other one is where the air filter pipe goes

...OK, I can see what you mean, the problem is that it is horrid out side otherwise I would have gone to the car and had a look, I have to wait for a better weather. The one facing upwards is to the air filter, right?
Thanks

Ok - top left of hte picture is the secondary turbo air inlet, the pipe, when in place - runs from there to your air filter(s)
next is the one thats pointing straight up, this is the tubo outlet and needs to be connected to your intercooler.
The next one is the elbow, the long silver thing with the hole at the end (right of picture) this needs to be connected to the intercooler as well.
As far as pipes go, all you need is generic 45 degree elbows etc that suit your needs. Just get the diameter of the pipes across the hole (74mm if i remember correctly) and order the pipes in that size that are the shapes you need.
and regarding the material of the parts, silicon can be used for the entire run if you use those "alloy hose connectors" also listed under that section. These push halfway into the end of a piece of silicon and are clamped down, they leave half sticking out to which you clamp your other piece of silicon to create a join.
You can use that method or buy some alloy piping, but this is more expensive.
Dont worry when the parts you order dont fit perfectly, for one silicon is flexible so can be bent into shape if required, and two - working on your own car is pretty much all about standing there offering things up and scratching your head about what your going to shave off where in order to make a good fit :)
Best thing to do is look at another persons setup (if they have pics of how they mounted their XSpower IC) and try to copy it. Youll be able to see what theyve used.

Hi
Many thanks for the specific instructions. You have been very helpful. I feel much more comfortable to do the job now…Indecently, did you lower your air intake tepm by putting in this IC? Is this one really so much better than the stock IC? I have a chance to buy one, will I gain some more bhp by lowering the intake temp?

Michaelb
A little amount, but not alot. Upgrading IC is more of a safety feature for the engine, although you will feel like youve gained power as when the cars hot, the intake will still be being cooled down more efficiently than with the stock IC.
why not put the IC upside down lol.... makes the plumbing easier :)
Hi
Thanks for all your comments, but I had to let the ic go as it will not fit…I still have the stock air filter and there is simply no room
