Hey all,
Can someone identify some pulleys for me. Not been in the manual yet but I\'ve attached pics of the pulleys on the FD....excluding the air pump one as that\'s going.
After reading Banzai this month there\'s a company that will custom make lightened pulleys for a sensible price.
So which ones are which and which ones would be ok to get lightened? Not talking about smaller/whatever to slow them down just lightened.
Ta :)
Ok the left pic from the left side Idle pulley (tensioner)then Power steering and the lower one is air con.
Right pic from the left, Water Pump pulley,Main or Crank pulley, Tensioner.
I know you can buy the Waterpump and Alt pulleys as a Pump removal kit, you can also buy alloy Crank and PS pulleys.
The idea is that the pulleys sizes are changed so the engine does less work to turn the Pumps etc in turn making the engine pick up faster.
It sounds good but when i did one of my cars i fould the Alt spun at a lot less rpm so it took longer to charge the Battery in turn when i used it in winter for work (lights on and heater etc both ways on a short trip) it would kill the battery after a week or so.
Cheers matey.
Yeah the idea with these is that they\'re lightened instead of changing the pulley sizes. That way there\'s less work to do as there\'s less weight but without actually changing the size of the pulleys.
One of the writers cars in this months Banzai has had his done and weighed them and they saved some weight. At least once I get mine done they should be able to do them for other FDs :)
I don\'t know about lightening the pulley making much diffrence if any?
The only reason having an Alloy Pulley exactly the same size as stock would be for show, the stockers are not heavy for example the PS pulley is plastic so will proberly weigh less than an Alloy one?? the others i would imagen would not gain any serious weigh loss buy making them out of alloy infact its softer and so may wear quicker???
I personaly think unless they are Underdriving Pulleys you will see no advantage.
Cheers matey, will be getting them done anyways as the engine bay is getting a bit of tarting just to clean it up while I rebuild the engine. Single turbo/major upgrades will have to wait a couple of years.
