Title: Oh No...
Post by: jay on December 15, 2003, 04:34:51 PM
Put my Fd into DS engineering on Saturday for it\'s First service since I got 8 weeks ago. Been runnin great but recently started to lose water. They have said it might be due to an internal engine gasket needin to be replaced,  the fact that I do quite a few short runs in it, which I know is not great but sometimes you just cant help it. The gasket option is a full engine out job. Does this mean a full rebuild is the way to go? Is this a common problem ? 31000 miles seems quite early to go and I did get it thru Newera so I thought it would be a good one... Anh advice would be great:confused:

If your water seals have gone, then this is a rebuild. You cannot replace the seals without splitting your plates and housings. As these seals sit between them!

It\'s a lot different to a head gasket on a piston engine :(

Regards

Put the car through a regular service and get it recorded. Get yourself a warrenty for around 200 quid and then make a claim ;)

Naughty, nah... that\'s what warrenties are for and they don\'t check out your motor when you take it out, just has to have been serviced within 6k or 6 months.

This might help ya pocket, merry christmas.

No warranty as I bought it from Sterte Garage as it was their demo and owned by AJ,not the garage, plus I had a deal with him.
Looks like the panic might be over due to me bein an IDIOT:rolleyes: No external leak and when the oil  was changed no sign of water. Just the gunk in the cap which looks like condensate. Also I\'ve been over fillin it and from the wrong place.I didnt even know the top up was by the headlight. I\'ve been over filling direct into the custom rad. The term KNOB sptings to mind. Been told to keep an eye on the levels and temps(which have always been stable)and hope everything is cool or its big money time.:(

Well that\'s good news :)

I think a lot of cars get the old gunk in the filler cap at this time of year, mine included. At 31k, with a bit of luck, you should have a good few miles left before \'big money time\'. Fingers crossed, eh? :D

hey mate

Hmm don\'t panic too much. Can I ask is ya motor heavily modded?
I got mine from Newera, had mine about 4 weeks before it started leaking EVERYWHERE... I thought *GAAAAAAH* rebuild! but my ever so honest mechanic and good friend spotted that the coolant neck was cracked and wasn\'t attached probably. £2 later.. fixed! hasn\'t leaked it 7 months now *touch wood*

Don\'t panic, could be somminc simple... hope for your sake it is... jjust make sure you take it somewhere honest (sure DS is don\'t know em though?)

On a different note.. the American\'s are crazy about this gunk they pour into their systems to stop it leaking, maybe worth looking into? about $15 to administer.. I dunno a lot about it though, caught my eye as I was panicing though?

RX7Club (http://www.rx7club.com/forum/)  is the URL, just hit the search

Best of luck!

Mines the silver one from the meet the eother sunday with the Blitz front mount. Hopefully it will be ok. DS are in dartford, Clive put me onto them. They dont claim to be sole specialist but Steve knows his stuff. Handy for servicing, but as for a rebuild they would put you onto someone like Haywards like they did for Clive.

ahh it\'s you!

Ahh so was it leaking at Hatfield house or was it the carwash?

if it was that was coming from the passanger side wasn\'t it...

I really hope it\'s just a hose crack or somminc, seems odd that such a well kept car should be so shoddy at 30k miles?

mmm I dread the day I need one of them... it\'ll be just when I\'ve paid off my cc... just you wait and see ;)

Glad it seems to be okay Jay.
I didnt realise you were the sort to be getting your holes mixed up! :D
I have just bought another one! Panspeed tuned single turbo - 400bhp ish. Yeah, I really miss the fuel consumption, NOT!
Mind you that White R32 GTR I own is even worse I can get about 5mpg out of it, still It is running over 520bhp at the moment.
