Title: Calling single tub owners
Post by: Bone on December 27, 2006, 09:54:05 PM
Took the rex out for a run today and it boosted fine to 0.9 bar (maximum low boost setting) but then it sounded like a vac pipe or something popped off and max boost I could get was 0.26 bar (off commander).
Had a quick look with the torch tonight and a metal pipe right by the oil filter underneath where the intake elbow joins to the plenum doesn\'t have a pipe connected to it and it isn\'t blanked off either. I had a look for any pipes nearby dangling not connected to anything, but couldn\'t find any.
Am I right in thinking it was probably blanked off? Sorry for the crap description but its the third pipe from the left (looking from the nearside of the car and in the area described above). It looked like there were 3 pipes in that area and 2 of them had pipes connected to them.
I\'ll take a pic tomorrow. If it does need blanking off, what do people use? Vacuum caps?
Any help is gratefully received. :Thumbsup!

Cheers
Luke

how big is the pipe, if its a small 3 mm one then i dont think that it would allow that much boost to escape.  It could be a split pipe that you can only see when there is pressure behind it.   Have a good look in daylight and check all the i/c pipes and the dump valve.

I assume it feels slower!

Yeah its only a smallish pipe, could do with looking in the daylight tomorrow really.

Put it this way, I struggled to overtake some crappy 4x4 on a dual carriageway! :(

Have a good look around in daylight mate as night vision with torch is just not good enough to see hose splits, have a good look around, if its a hose you should spot it sooner or later,

goodluck fella :Laugh

ok, had a good look around. Checked I/C pipes and boost pipes, all seemed to be firmly connected and not split (they all look newish cos they were probably replaced when it was converted to single turbo about 18 months ago by Pip).
Took a pic of the pipe with nothing connected to it. Its not as small as I first thought last night, looks to be about 6mm as opposed to 3mm. I\'m hoping its just this pipe that needs blocking off to sort it out.The noise of a pipe or something popping off last night did seem to come from the nearside of the engine bay and this would tie in with the exposed pipe. Although I am just guessing. :D

Most probably, haven\'t got the foggiest. Looks like its a trip to a specialist anyway in the new year.
